Price Paid:  $160.00 at bass pro shops

Summary:
Don't buy these boots if you hike rugged terrain. The soles are not stable enough. When you step on a rock or root it feels like you have slippers on. If you hike 16 miles or more like me, look elsewhere. I'm not downing Danner at all, they make exellent products. All I'm saying is you will need a more rugged boot if you are a serious hiker. The soles do have good traction but will wear out quikly. You can not resole the St. Helens 2. Stay off the blacktop as much as you can as with any hiking boot. Good luck in your search.

Customer Service:
I give Danner an A+. They will work with you and are very friendly. They sent my boots next day air so I would have them in time.

Similar Products Used:
Vasque ClarionsGTX. Stay away from these boots. Danner Mackinaw's. Very good boots, but are discontued. The mountian lites are basically the same boots.

Reviewed by: Richard ,  Day Hiker , from Hattiesburg, MS, USA

Summary:
I purchased these boots about 3 years ago since they have a Gor-Tex booty and I wanted a good water resistant boot. The leather is soft and they fit comfortably without having to break them in. In addition to using them for hiking, I wear them on a regular basis for work. I work in a laboratory and am on my feet moving around most of the day. I have worn the padded insert out and replaced it but the inside booty and soles have yet to even look worn. Mine have been very comfortable, long-lasting, and worth the price. I have since bought another pair of Danner but a different style with a stiffer leather just for a change of pace. I am deffinately going to buy another pair of the St. Helens if I ever wear these out.

Summary:
I bought these last summer as I was a Ranger for a Boy Scout camp leading week long hikes in the Tetons. I have a wider foot and these boots were great. I never felt like I really had to break them in. It was as though they came broken in! They have become so much a part of my feet I hardly wear anything else.
