Price Paid:  $150.00 at limmer's

Summary:
I've owned a pair of Limmers since, I think, 1976 - waited 18 mos - 2 yrs after being measured in 1974. I've hiked in them through New Mexican deserts, throughout the Rockies and New England. No regrets - warm in the winter, cool(ish) in the summer, no gd goretex liner to flop around and fail, simply superb boots. That said, I have just ordered a pair of Asolo Fusion 95s to try out on a backpacking trip this summer. The Limmers are heavy (!) and after a day of hiking, I'm glad to take them off. So, i'm trying lightweight, and we'll see. I still use an externaal frame packback, and I'm bringing my Limmers out west, so my scepticsm is strong. One thing I know in advance, from looking at the Asolos- I won't be writing 25 years from now reporting that they're still going strong.

Price Paid:  $250.00 at Limmers!

Summary:
I got my pair of custom limmers in 1990 and still wear them 4-6 days a week. I only give them a break to let them air out a bit. I grease them at least 1 time a month. I am not sure if this is recomended but every now and then I put them in my oven with it preheated to the lowest setting about 175 or 200. First I clean all the dirt off and get them down to a dry leather. Then I turn the heat off and stick the boots in for about 10 minutes or so. I then give them a good greasing and and let the oil really soak in. Then repeat the greasing after the boots look dry. So anyway that's my shtick.

About the service, they are the best!

Price Paid:  $300.00 at A.J. Brooks

Summary:
For people wondering about Meindl boots, the company that makes some Limmer models. The Limmer and Meindl families go way back and therefore you can have confidence in the quality and fit. I have had 3 pairs of Meindls and my son 3 or 4.

I currently wear with a passion my Meindl Super Perfects. This is a heavy approximately 5lbs, 3,8 mil Glausser leather. Glausser is the best of the best leathers. Norweigan welt and Virbram soles. I bought my latest pair in January 2000 and expect a good 10 years and 3/4 resolings out of them. They are a very heavy boot with a leather lining that takes some time to break in but they are beauties. A lot of my backpacking is 7-14 day trips in remote wilderness areas. Extensive mountain work in the Coast Mountains with unlimted elevation changes, sharp rock, scree, lots of water, etc. I also routinely carry a 65-75 lb load in my Mchale backpack (another gem!!). I have used the boots in the drier British Columbia interior where I was lugging the Mchale in 85-90 F temperatures - warm but with double socks no problem. I have never! had a blister in the leather lined Super Perfects even during the break in.

These boots are for serious back packers. Meindl makes a huge range of boots that work well for anytype of outdoor activity. To my knowledge A.J. Brooks in Vancouver is the only Canadian and possibly North American outlet.

Happy hiking.

Customer Service:
Paul, the owner of A.J. Brooks is one of the real hiking boot experts in British Columbia. Also, because he only deals in Meindl boots he routinely visits the factory and knows the manufacturing processes and materials intemently. His and his staff provide superb service. Buying a pair of boots like the Super Perfects is a 2-3 hour experience.

Other boots - I had a pair of Scarpa boots that were built on an aluminum monoque mid-sole. These were a lighter boot and were fabulous inn -40 F weather when matched up with a pair of expedition gaiters. Unfortunately, Scarpa no longer makes this model.

Summary:
I bought the heavyweight Limmer's on 11/24/2000. The owner (Karl Limmer, I believe) spent about 75 minutes with me. He looked at my feet and basically knew their history to date. I went for stock boots as I couldn't wait four years for custom's. My feet fitted perfectly. I bought the cleaning kit with Limmer's wax too. I've worn the boots at least three times a week since then. To break them in I've been on easy hikes, dog walking thru woods, up hills, along trails, over rocks averaging about 3-5 miles per day, to work, a few bars and I really didn't get too many hot spots. Any were instantly cured with a bit of mole skin, now they're perfectly comfortable. I'm looking forward to spring so I can get out on the hard stuff. I've not worn them in really cold weather as they're not the warmest of boots when tramping through snow and ice, but then again they're not advertised as winter hiking/climbing boots. Clean-ups are easy with a wire brush (provided in cleaning kit), and the wax which I apply about once a month makes them look like new and of course adds to their water repellency. They look good, and feel amazing. Several of my friends own pairs too. We refer to them as Limmer's; not boots, and I highly recommend them.

Customer Service:
Service at the Limmer shop in Intervale is first-class. It is a pleasure dealing with people who understand the product from literally the inside out, rather than dealing with a twenty-something year old person in a green field jacket working for extra spending money, claiming to know everything about every boot in the store.

Summary:
I got my Limmers in '86 (big black & heavy) after 1 yr for $180 and they've been GREAT ever since. Up & down Mtneer's Route on Whitney, thru 7 yrs of snow camping, great friction on rock to 5.6-nothing comes close to these beautiful clunkers. Leather has cracked a bit around the flex point & they leak a bit so I don't use 'em for snow anymore but for rock climbing they're the BEST! I'm suffering now in Vasque Apex boots (too narrow even in EEE) so I'm going to try the mass produced Meindls. Don't understand why Asolo, Vasque, etc. don't make a boot with a squared off toe that matches wide feet!
Limmer FOREVER!!!

Tried every boot know to man & woman! New Balance, Asolo, Vasque, Camp 7, etc. in wide, EEEE, 1/2 size larger than I normally wear, etc. Nothing worked very well-yo gotta get Limmers if you've got wide feet or long arches!
