at decathlon Summary: Just weared out the third pair of them, and found out that they stopped the production of this model. This is the only bad news about these shoes, since I wear them out usually in 1 year. Great for light backpack everyday use especially on sharp rocky terrains. Good shock absorption, great for jumps from boulder to boulder, will save your knees on big drops. Great on long steep descends. After one year all the plastic parts separate from the fabric, and the sole wears down to zero. Not good for sand/ snow/debris, or heavy backpacks because of short shaft. Needs users with good ankles, poor ankle support but great freedom. Thank you, Salomon. Similar Products Used: Adv 6 (the "zipper" model) - zero durability, three pairs broken in one month each!

at frisco Colorado Summary: I have had MountainX boot for a couple of years and love there performance. The sewing of the leather part of the boot let go from the vinyl part of the boot. Nothing else is wrong with the boot. The manufacturer said that I needed the style of the mountainX boot I received from them in 2000. I t lookjust like the one in this review. They said they could not stand behind this because it was past the year warranty and I say that this will happen to all boot becasue of the sewng of 2 different materials which will finally cut the thread. It did it on both boots Customer Service: I would like to here from the manufacture on this. Similar Products Used: none

Day Hiker
, from Sydney, Australia
Price Paid:
$100.00
at REI Summary: Bought these 3 years ago at REI for $100 (they were retailing for $150). I use them everywhere as my day hiker, hiking in Hawaii (where I immersed them in streams for hours with nary a leak), walking in the snow in Denver, bush walking in the Blue Mountains in Sydney. I have a pair of authentic 8's for heavier back packing.
Great grip, the one-pull lacing is fantastic, you can really feel the tread of the sole working to bring your feet through a natural gait. It does get a little hot, but I find that with any boot anyway.
Gripes: The rubber "wings" make creaking noises! And for some reason (maybe as others have mentioned it being a lower volume boot), replacement insoles don't seem to work too well in these boots. I usually put superfeet or similar insoles, but I had to stick with the original insoles (i.e. not much at all) that came with the boots, otherwise I would get hot spots - and this is the funny thing, they'd be fine if you were walking around, but if you sat down to rest, you'd feel the pressure on the soles!
Similar Products Used: Scarpa (fit like a glove, wore them everywhere, just can't justify the price anymore!) Timberlands (I wear them as my civilised trekking shoe) Rockport (too soft to qualify as a real hiking shoe)

Backpacker
, from Santa Clara Summary: These shoes are comfortable and walk themselves. Great grip and stiff sole. But the greatest thing is that they require zero hours to break in. I got them out of the box and did Half Dome at a semi scrambling speed (3h45m going up). No blisters, no sore spots. Good ventilation.
Now, one year later, they're still sturdy and solid. Unlike those many other easy-brak-in boots that become slippers after 2 months (e.g. Ecco).
OK, they're not cushy and look spacy with the plastic thing. Similar Products Used: None

Price Paid:
$49.00
at Sport Chalet Summary: Bought these at a clearance for knock arounds, but they've become my favorite warm weather hikers and scramblers. The sole is firm and incredibly sticky on slickrock, and the mesh upper keeps the boot cool and light. Lacing system requires one easy pull and they lock in place to tie. Not a waterproof boot, but design allows for quite a bit of exposure before soaking in. Great at twice the price I paid. Similar Products Used: None
