Summary:
Very comfy boot. I wore it right out of the box. Went on a 9 mile hike and not even a hot spot. The glove leather lining is superb and this boot has just enought support. It is stiff enough so you don't feel rocks on the bottom of the sole. I find them to be extremely comfortable and not too hot. They are not clunky either like my Montrail Moraines and Montrail Vercors. Quality of these are very nice as well. I think the boot will last a good while too.

Customer Service:
none yet

Similar Products Used:
Montrail Vercors (> 25 mile break in period but GREAT boot), Montrail Moraine AT (long break in, bomb proof boot), Tecnica Stratus (no break in, nice light boot)

Price Paid:  $116.00 at SierraTradingPost.co

Summary:
While the Lady Scout is no longer to be found, the Scout II is available, at least until stocks are depleted.

Okay, so I am not young. I've been ill, homebound, and simply had to make a choice: buy a new HDTV to sit in front of and watch life pass away, or get myself a new pair of boots and a digital camera. Glad I made the right choice. Years ago, I loved a good pair of Sundowners- alas, they are no longer the same boot, so I took up the hunt for something better. The Lowa Scout II hiking boots are it.

I'm not much for a gratuitous compliment, but these boots, they remind me of the support in a mother's hug, the strength of a lover's embrace, and the joy inside a child's heart all rolled up into a beautiful pair of boots that I just believe might carry me right on into the next world. Until then, I'm going to find a reason to wear them every day. If I had a few stars to give Lowa, I'd pass at least five of mine over to them for the experience.

Customer Service:
SierraTradingPost.com website runs like molasses on a snowy winter's morning. But. The prices, well, like that same molasses, they be truly, truly sweet (::smile::).

I've had lots of boots over the years, but the closest thing I've had to the feel the glove leather lining of these boots empart are my original Sundowners, from a quarter century ago. Back when they were made right. Made right. Sounds almost too good to be true, eh?

UPDATE TO MY REVIEW OF 6/24/01 ON WOMEN'S LOWA SCOUT:
After waiting for 4 1/2 weeks to get a response from Lowa this company sent me a BRAND NEW pair of Lowa Scout. I must clarify that my old boots were still under warranty. Even so it took them
a long time to respond I changed my mind about their customer
service.

Price Paid:  $190.00 at Redding Sportsshop

Summary:
I bought this boot to last me a long time. The break in was short, gives great support, somewhat comfortable if you have the right foot for it. After just about 3 times moderate hiking the rubber around the boot (the rand) seperated from the boots.. As I found out it is not a fluke since the store I bought it from had more of those complaines.
The store sent my boots to the factory since they are still under warranty. It has been 4 weeks and I did not get my boots back yet or even heard from the factory. This seems also to be a common problem with Lowa. They are slow in responding. I expect much better service or quality from a shoe in that price range, and I know any other boots I might buy in the future wont be from Lowa.

Customer Service:
Very slow in responding, bad customer service. My boots are there for repair since 4 weeks and they still can't tell me when I will get them back and the hiking season is in full swing.
