Video Free Climbing - The Nose Rock Climbing

Video Free Climbing - The Nose Rock Climbing

DESCRIPTION

On September 16, 1993, nearly 35 years after Harding, Merry and Whitmore made the first ascent of the Nose, Lynn Hill finished the first free ascent. After many attempts by some of the world's top climbers, the Great Roof and the pitch above Camp 6 had evaded solution--until Hill came along. On September 20, 1994, just one year after her first free ascent, Lynn took it a step further--the Nose all free in a day. A virtual free climbing marathon, this feat established a free climb in a class of it's own. Running time is 25 minutes.

Climber

Honestly, this is one of the best climbing movies ever made. As a rule, it seems the only way one can watch great climbing footage is to rent Cliffhanger or watch short-attention-span bouldering movies with Punk/Techno soundtracks. Lynn Hill raised the bar further than most athletes concieve - she free climbed the Nose of El Cap in a single day. It's arguably the most famous and heralded route in North America, and after a zillion attempts by some pretty strong contenders, Lynn sent it. The film offers a micro biography, decent historical footage and recounts some previous attempts. She downplays her first success of free climbing the route, and instead feeds the viewer with the magnitude of repeating the feat in a single 24 period. Footage of the crucial pitches is shown, but I won't deny it's a low budget production and I wish she would have made more mention of her support - belayers and cameraman. All in all, this movie is definitely worth owning because unlike most "sports" movies where after one viewing you're bored with the tape - I don't believe you'll have trouble watching this one again. It's incredible.
