Price Paid:  $60.00 at Mickey's Place Outdo

Summary:
Awesome filter! Sucks in water really easily and pumps it out very easy and FAST. So easy that I could pump it while holding it up in the air over a pot without even connecting the outlet hose.

I had a Katadyn Hiker before and it was nowhere as easy to use as this filter.

Pumping requires more effort on the Hiker and pumps less water compared to the Guide.

Price Paid:  $80.00 at REI

Summary:
Five of us took this filter on a four day hike around Isle Royale NP. We had an MSR Miniworks for a backup but the PUR was all we needed. I could fill three bottles in the time the MSR could fill one. It's easy to use and pumps a lot of water fast.

You can buy smaller, lighter filters but if you have high volume water needs I would recommend the PUR Guide. We were very happy with this filter.

Reviewed by: npratt ,  Paddler , from Portland, Maine

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
This filter has its pros and cons. It is the fastest in its price range, in large part because its filter allows more gunk to pass than the finer filter used in the comparable MSR Miniworks EX (which I own). A couple of smaller negative points vs. the MSR - it uses 2 hoses (vs. 1 for the MSR) which increases contamination potential, and its "bicicle pump" action (vs. lever on MSR) is more cumbersome. The MSR is also easily cleaned in the field, which you cannot do with the PUR.
Overall, a good performer if you're taking short trips in areas with clean water to begin with. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and sacrifice a bit of speed for a smarter design and greater filtration capacity.

Summary:
Got this a few weeks ago, used it on a couple 2-5 day hikes, and it works like a charm. I use it in the high Rockies so the water is very clear to begin with but this thing filters very fast, not as light as others I have used but great non-the-less.
