Price Paid:  $60.00 at Sierra Trading Post

Summary:
Adequate as a first pack for a young child. Very lightweight.
But it isn't particularly well made. Padding could be beefier
and the packcloth is very thin. If you have a 7 - 10 year old who
isn't carrying a lot, this pack will suffice. We purchased this for our daughter when she turned 7. At the time she carried my lightweight sleeping bag (2 lbs), lunch, water, a book and a stuffed animal.
Now that she's 12, we've had to buy a better pack. I think the same would go for most children. If they are carrying more than a few lbs, or are pre-teen or older they will need a better pack.

Price Paid:  $75.00 at Galyan's

Summary:
While the pack had a clean design and a good price I had many issues with it. First, the suspension was very deficient with thin padding and narrow, hard-to-adjust straps. As for the size it was not nearly enough for even a weekend trip with the Boy Scouts. It was my first pack at the age of 11 but it was still ridiculously small.

Customer Service:
My qualm here is with Galyan's and not Kelty. My past two packs I have purchased at Galyan's and both times they have steered me towards ridiculously small packs, despite my repeatedly telling them I was planning on using for treks up to ten days.

Summary:
This was my first pack I got for my Tenth birthday. I only used it a few times for Boy Scouts, and it was pretty good for a first pack. I would reccomend it for new scouts and parents lookinf for a pack for a younger child.
