Mammut added a rubber internal gate to the Element Smart HMS Carabiner to keep the orientation correct so you never look down and see in horror that you've cross-loaded your carabiner. Such an act greatly decreases your carabiners strength, so it's a good thing that it'll never happen with this 'biner. Plus, the Element Smart includes a twist-lock gate and snag-free keylock nose to make it quick and easy to use.
