at John Norris of Penrith Body of Water: Norway, Russia Summary: Lines Tried: Rio Accelerator Tips Spey #10-11
Have not found a review place for the Accelerator Tips Spey, so I post it at this place concerning the Rio Windcutter Tips Spey.
The accelerator has a longer belly than the Windcutter, and a different complex front taper, apart of that they are similar products. The acelerator being advertised for advanced spey casters (due to the longer belly) , the windcutter more suitable for beginners.
The line is a dream to use, it loads the rod like a double taper, permits the presentation of a double taper (due to the complex front taper), but gives the extra distance of a weight forward (it is in fact a weight forward line)
Its versatility is obvious, you can change in a couple of minutes the last 15 feet of the line with one of the four tips from floating to fast sinking, no more need for carrying extra spools. I have not found much difference when casting a heavy sink tip compared to a floating tip, as it concerns only the last 15 feet, the rest of the line being floating, an extra roll cast down stream can do the trick, the rest of the cast loading the rod upstream, then forward cast are identical as are the performance.
All of its length (150 feet) can be cast to the other side of the river when timing properly the cast. Casting 120 feet is child's play.
A superior product which deserves a full 5 stars. Has become a favorite for spey casters in Scotland, even the traditionnalists.
Strengths: Versatility, lack of memory, distance, presentation Weaknesses: Loop connections, care to be taken when playing a fish. Very bulky on the reel, be prepared to buy the biggest reel your dollars can buy, or cut part of the 70 feet running line. Similar Products Used: Airflo Multi Tips
