Description Now available in an 8-weight, the Mastery Nymph turns over split shot, weighted flies, and strike indicators, and has a large diameter tip for better visibility. It's easy to mend and built for short-...
Summary: Great line for heavy flies, bulky flies, split shot, and indicators. Easy to track in the water, easy to mend.
Strengths: Very powerful front taper for big flies, weight, and wind. So strong you have to be careful of the snap at each end of the cast. Long rear taper makes for easy mending.
Weaknesses: Not delicate to say the least, but that is not what this line is for. A little pricey.
Customer Service: Not needed yet.

Summary: To put this in context, I fish nymphs about 75% of the time and I've been fishing about 50 days a year since 1972. I think I own about 5 different lines for my 5 weight and I use the Nymph Taper about 90% of the time in moving water. I love this line.
Fishing here in the Rockies, we run into a lot of wind. With this line, you can walk off from the car in the morning, fish nymphs, wooley buggers, hoppers, anything. If there's a hatch, you can even fish small dries effectively. You just have to finish the cast high and let the line settle gently. Obviously, it's not the best thing for clear, shallow, calm conditions with small flies. But if the wind's blowing, it really works. And you can turn over a size 4 wooley bugger or a big stonefly nymph with a 3 BB's when you need to. Another thing more fly fishermen should condider -- try a size larger than your rod is rated.
I've worn out at least 5 Nymph Tapers and I'm getting another one this month.
Strengths: Turns over big flies, shot, and indicators. Mends well. Great in the wind. Easy to see.
Weaknesses: Easy to see. Not the best for spooky fish in delicate situations.

Summary: Poor choice for nymphing, would make an o.k. intermediate line except for the orange color. I use this line when I am teaching someone to cast. It turns over good and the color allows them to track their line.
Strengths: Will turn over a weighted fly or lead.
Weaknesses: Sank like a stone right out of the box. Forget trying to mend with this abortion. You might say this is a handicap when nymphing. I also dislike an orang colored line, spooks fish particularly in the low flows of winter.
Customer Service: Should have sent it back but didn't.
