Description Encounter first hand the incredible sensitivity of the GLX's tip, it's ability to telegraph even the most delicate takes. Whether you're an expert fly angler who wants every last bit of his ability to...
Review Abstract One elated reviewer claims the G. Loomis GLX 5 wts is “expensive,” but says this rod is “the best on the market.” This “lightweight” unit features “easy” casting for a wide range of styles and fish sizes. The GLX tip offers “incredible sensitivity” for “convenient” preparation. The “quick” loading and “rapid firing” along with “smooth” and “strong” performance add up to an impressive product. You can toss fishing lines with “authority” and not tire out. With consumers, the G. Loomis is a winner.

Summary: I've fished top orvis rods and top sage rods and neither compare to the 5wt GLX...its light, quick and responsive. It's an expensive rod but if you are only going to have one rod make it a GLX.

Summary: Probably the lightest 5 weight I've ever fished (in feel, balance, and weight). I like the all black finish, guides and all. Provides excellent control in all casting conditions. I like the drop loop guides, but found them a bit flimsy when I got clumsy scrambling over rocks.

Summary: This rod (5 wt. 4 piece) spoiled me for most of the other rods out there. I sometimes wonder why I bring other rods out on a trip with me, it's that sweet and it haunts me if I'm not using it. Tracks like a lazer. To me it feels fine for both close in work and with tons of line in the air. I don't seem to find the tip as being very stiff as someone else mentioned, it even reponds well to dinky bluegill. This is the rods of all rods.
Customer Service: Good, honest and quick. Only used the Expeditor service on a GL-4 but that service helped in my decision to buy a GLX.

Summary: After I loaded a 6 wt. Cortland Lazer in this 10 footer I was shocked. I could set on my butt, float along, pick up line and shoot it like a rocket anywhere I wanted to (within reason)and fast. And I don't have to work at it. It's just pull, point, shoot and It's the easiest I've ever managed that.
The real suprise here is the rod does not "break down" and it carries the line like it was designed for it. I get more distance and easier with the 6 wt. line. And It loads quick and works faster in close but it's not gentle at this range. If I'm not careful it's like a gun. I've "laced" a few
A large part of this is the extra foot, but the overlining made this rod into a totally different animal and just what I was looking for after all. For bigger water, wind, distance and being easy on yourself this combo is perfect for this guy. It's like using a 8 or 9 wt. without the weight. It's great for lakes and will steer steelhead as well as about anything I've used but it is without question my choice for big river browns. At least the way I go about it.
I bought a 5wt. but for me it's the finest, smoothest, easiest, longest casting 6wt. I've ever come accross.

Summary: I didn't list similar products because all the rods I own are different. I enjoyed using this rod, although it's not perfectly suited to all conditions IMO. It's relatively light, and it feels even lighter than it really is for some reason. It's a nice dry fly rod for getting good line speed. Overlining it to a six helped in overal casting feel, and it could handle just fine. But I didn't enjoy it as much for nymphing. It was a little hard to open my loop when casting "junk". It's overall feel was a bit stiff. I prefer the Sage VPS as a slightly more moderate rod more well-suited to a variety of conditions. Also, I think this rod is simply overpriced because it's the hot, new line from Loomis. A quality rod though that some might fall in love with for some types of fishing. I noted with some interest those who busted the tips on their rods and still gave the rod double 5 stars. Doesn't this seem to be happening too much?
