Summary: Great entry rod for a reasonable price from a quality manufacturer. I like the no-nonsense appearance, functional design.
In small/medium stream conditions when wind is a factor, the rod stiffness allows reasonably accurate casts where other
rods with more flex would not. The price range of the GL3's allows the angler who has an initial interest in flyfishing to get into
the sport with a quality product at a reasonable initial investment level without laying down the big bucks. I use this rod with
a Ross Gunnison. I have a Hardy Marquis 6 wt on my other rod and much prefer the Hardy ( no longer made for US market)
If you like wood handles spend $150.00 more. Great rod for moderate budget with quality in mind.

Summary: The second best short 4 wgt out there (the Winston's better, but this is more than 1/2 the price less). Strong, loads well, casts well short and long, light weight, and extremely accurate. 2003 model has new uplocking seat which is far better than previous years model. I've found great inconsistency in Loomis manufacturing, so test the individual rod out; if you find a good one, buy it.

Summary: I had this rod before and sold it to upgrade to a glx 7'6"4wt.
I bought another one for backup purposes if the glx breaks.
Having owned both rods, the gl3 has a stronger feel than the
glx.Throws bluegill poppers and larger dries well.A good all
around rod with out the glitter.

Summary: I have the 3 piece 7'6". It is an average rod at best. I have cast other four weights in this price range (150 to 350 or so) and found many of them to be better. Personally, I don't like the fact that it doesn't roll cast well and doesn't load at short range, especially since the rod is likely made for small streams. Maybe it's just my casting style. I have heard the two piece is better.
Customer Service: Excellent. As stated, you don''t pay high dollar for an unconditional warranty, but I can assure you that Loomis will treat you right if something happens to your rod. The turn around was excellent
