St. Croix Legend Ultra - 5 wts
|
Review Abstract The St. Croix Legend Ultra features an “elegant appearance” and “excellent feel.” This “light,” 5 wts rod has a “strong” backbone and offers “fast” action for nymphing. The “delicate” tip is ideal for an “accurate presentation for dries.” Titanium single foot guides are an added bonus. Lines can be “easily mended.” Most owners are pleased overall, saying the performance “rivals” rods in higher price ranges. |

at Trout Water Supply Summary: Well what a beauty. Sage who? I was lucky enough to get a weekend with a legend ultra 3 wt, and that sold me on the rod. My new 6 wt 3 piece is a dream, and makes flyfishing that much better. It is a top quality rod, and I now know that I will never own a sage in my life. Craig

$290.00 Summary: Rod performs well when the ferrules don't slip, but ferrules always slip. I broke the rod in my 2nd month when the connection closest to the tip got loose. On my back cast, the connection broke and both ferrules splintered. The lifetime warranty is great, but having to continuously send the rod back and pay $10 each time can get tiresome and expensive. After having the rod serviced, the ferrules still come loose. Customer Service: excellent Similar Products Used: Scott S-series

$220.00 Summary: I got my hands on this rod after shattering my other 5 wt (no warranty) in a local lake. Honestly I had every intention of walking out with a new G Loomis GL3, but after casting the two side by side it was a no brainer for me. I preferr an 8'6 length for my stroke but opted for the 9' to cover nymphing and short line use as well. I tend to agree with some of the other posts, the action is just a bit shy of what I would feel "fast", but suits me perfectly. On my last quickie trip I hurriedly packed what I thought to be my 5 wt reel and headed to the stream only to discover my salt (8 wt) reel in my fanny pack. With no choice but to strap it on, I did so and was amazed at the rods backbone. I got curious and began stripping line and double hauling..... the rod finally ran out of legs, but not until I could see the backing visible beneath the few remaining coils of fly line on the reel. Accuracy, light touch (with the right line!), versatility...... I don't see how you can find a better value for your $ Customer Service: no exp thus far Similar Products Used: Redington, All Star Austin series
