Review Abstract
Consumers say the Sage RPLXi 8 wts is the rod for “fast” action. “Sturdy” and “easy to use,” this rod offers “quick” loading, versatility and durability, and won’t tire your arm out. A “powerful” butt section allows you to land heavier fish “effortlessly.” Though somewhat “pricey,” consumers agree the Sage RPLXi 8 wts gives fishing enthusiasts the “control” they need for “fun fishing.”

Price Paid:  $495.00 at kevins sporting good

Body of Water:
gulf of mexico

Favorite City:
?

Favorite State:
florida

Favorite Country:
usa

Summary:
In a word this rod is "SLOW" If you fly fish in salt water you have to deal with the wind and it will spank you with this rod. One would be better served with a faster rod on the flats. The Sage RPLXI is my $495 back-up rod & thats a shame because they made a great rod in the RPLX it was hot!

Strengths:
can be made to load well for short work ie:tailing redfish, by uplining one size, ex: 8wt rod, use 9wt line.

Weaknesses:
This is not a saltwater rod! because the wind blows 99% of the time and your distance is severly limited in those conditions.

Customer Service:
never had any dealings with them

Strengths:
Loads well. Positive feel. Yearns for the long casts.

Summary:
I am very tough and demanding on equipment and I have never had any problems out of my Sage rods. I have used this rod to fish for carp, bass, steelhead, ladyfish, and redfish and I think this is really an excellent, well built rod. My only complaint is that doesn't load well in short distances. But I realize that every rod can't do everyhting.

Strengths:
Great power and quality. This rod is very good at lifting bullish fish and giving me the leverage I need to land them. This rod almost seems to laugh at the wind.

Weaknesses:
No fly keeper. Could be better in short distances.

Customer Service:
None needed

Reviewed by: Anonymous User ,  50+ days a year , from Tampa, Florida, USA

Price Paid:  $525.00 at World Class Outfitters

Body of Water:
West Central Florida Flats

Favorite City:
Tampa

Favorite State:
FL

Favorite Country:
USA

Summary:
Best damn medium weight rod I've ever thrown! It's my favorite, most frequently fished rod.

Strengths:
Incredible action -- making it possible to throw heavy flies and small flies equally well. Tremendous lifting power in the butt, making it well suited for flats fishing where Redfish, Snook, Jack Crevalle, Cobia, and Trout hang out.

The large stripping guides reduce line friction, allowing more line to pass through the guides with less effort.

This is a rod you can throw all day without getting tired, and it's strong enough to handle just about any fishing in the 50 lb. or less.

Weaknesses:
Price -- you've can to mortgage the farm to buy one (unless money isn't a big obstacle for you). But once you get the rod, it's well worth it!

Customer Service:
Exceptional -- no questions asked, lifetime warranty! Break a rod tip? No problem. Sage will fix it or replace it. Sage's service is equivalent to Penn's service.

Reviewed by: Anonymous User ,  50+ days a year , from Finland

Summary:
I use this rod for pike and sea-run brown trout. This summer I plan to use it for salmon. A very versatile rod!

Strengths:
This rod (RPLXi 890-3)is a real workhorse. A great all round rod that can do a bit of most everything. With the right line it can handle many different fishing situations. It can punch through the wind or finesse a long soft cast on a calm day. It throws monster pike flies and small size 10 shrimps. It is light and very easy to cast and easy on the arm which you are grateful for after a long day of fishing.

Weaknesses:
I would prefer it to be even faster so I could cover even more water but then again if it was some of those other qualities it has might suffer.

Customer Service:
Replies quickly to enquiries sent by e-mail. Other than that I haven't had to use it.
