Reviewed by: Anonymous User ,  50+ days a year , from St. Simons Island

Price Paid:  $550.00 at Bedford Sportsman

Body of Water:
Florida Keys

Favorite City:
Islamorada

Favorite State:
Fl

Summary:
Test drive it with the desired fly pattern you wish to cast.

Strengths:
Very responsive, quick, loads well on smaller to medium saltwater flies. Great company, large guides. Feels great in the hand and easy to cast all day.

Weaknesses:
I am a loyal Sage fan, and have several RPLX rods that I truely enjoy. But I seemed to have a harder time loading the 9wt. RPLXi with larger Permit patterns than I did with the new Loomis Glx, or new Orvis tl. If you are looking for a great bonefish, techy permit rod maybe this is it. If you want a little more back bone in the lower section of the rod, (where the power is) maybe look and test!!!!the glx 9 or 10 wt. rods. Just be sure to cradle the glx like your first born otherwise you'll be sending it back to have the tip replaced, no ceiling fans needed........

Customer Service:
excellent, I don't know how to improve it

Similar Products Used:
Own rplx,ds,Glx, and Scotts.

Reviewed by: Anonymous User ,  30 days a year , from London

Price Paid:  $550.00 at The Fly Shop (Minn)

Body of Water:
River Wylye

Favorite City:
Salisbury

Favorite Country:
England

Summary:
The 990-3 is light and powerful rod that initially feels stiff, but the action is compromising. It is among the best 9 weight rods I have tried. By far the best travel rod in its class.
I have been saved many times by this rod when fishing in windy conditions (+30 mph winds). It really does deliver

Compares favourably with Winston, Redington, Powell, Scott and Hardy. The reel holder is only problem I have observed, albeit a significant one. I wish it was made in a 9,6 ' as well. Is too expensive in my view.

Strengths:
Light but powerful. Easy to cast and improves my casting abilities. Turns over heavey flies with ease in all conditions. A real wind cutter.

Weaknesses:
Reel holder/seat is too narrow as it can not hold all saltwater reels. I am not convinced about the colour/finish

Customer Service:
No experience (and I own 5 SAGE rods)

Reviewed by: Anonymous User ,  50+ days a year , from Brick, N.J.

Price Paid:  $475.00 at The Fly Hatch

Body of Water:
East coast salt water

Favorite Country:
USA

Summary:
This rod has been used primarly for Stripers on the Jersey shore however it works great for Albies, Bluefish, Bonefish when it's windy and the occasional Atlantic Salmon when I have the opportunity to fish for them.

Strengths:
Beautiful rod, smooth casting able to throw large flys into the wind.

Weaknesses:
Wish that it was a four piece, airline travel is getting to be a problem with carry ons.

Customer Service:
Excellent, never used it for this rod but previous experience has always proved that Sage is a first class company and stands behind their product

Similar Products Used:
Loomis GL3, Sage RPLX, Winston BL5 (no comparison and it cost more than the Sage)

Summary:
a perfect striper rod, plenty of punch, handles the wind with ease, while i prefer winston's for trout, sage seems to have the saltwater thing nailed!

Strengths:
great power, great looks, excellent construction

Weaknesses:
wish it was 4 or 5 pieces

Customer Service:
never a problem with sage

Body of Water:
Island Beach

Favorite State:
NJ

Summary:
I love their rods in general. 10 wt and above in the RPLXi are the best rods for me. They really fit my casting style, but the 9 and below are too mushy for me

Strengths:
Sage quality, light

Weaknesses:
Too soft for my liking. The rod tends to feel a bit mushy.

Customer Service:
Great. When I've used them their service has always been exceptional.
