Reviewed by: Lasse Karlsson ,  50+ days a year , from Copenhagen, Denmark

Price Paid:  $435.00 at Fiskeri & Fritid, Ru

Body of Water:
Primarely the coastal waters of denmark

Summary:
A really exellent jacket, that can and happily will take the abuse of saltwater fishing.
I'm the proud owner of two different editions. The oldest is the one with the meshlining and is by all means still going strong. But I had my eye on the new one with the laminated lining, and when I walked in to the shop, and saw the newest edition I just had to have it. Apart from the features already mentioned in the other reviews, Patagonia has made the color tan, improved on the cuffs so they are now very watertight (they have used a rubberlike material, sorry don't know the name), and fleecelined the handwarmer pockets.

Strengths:
It's just the best fishing jacket out there :-)

Weaknesses:
Other than it's price, very expensive where I live, I have yet to discover any.

Customer Service:
Haven't have to use it yet

Price Paid:  $200.00 at Western Anglers

Body of Water:
Anywhere in Idaho or California

Summary:
This is the first quality fishing jacket I've owned. I tried on the Simms Guide Jacket and the Reddington Jacket. Both were very good but a little bulky and heavier compared to the Patagonia. I could have gotten any of the three for a similar price but settled on the Patagonia because it was more comfortable and overall I liked it's features better.

Strengths:
An awesome shell that is comfortable and adaptable to the conditions. Large front pockets with storm flaps and the jacket has an adjustable waist band that can be worn loose or cinched when wading, as well as other features. The jacket is roomy enough to be worn over a vest if you prefer.

Weaknesses:
The price of these three jackets is a weakness, as is the general cost of any quality fly fishing or fishing gear. The front zipper took a little while to break in but with repeated use it finally loosened up. Also, the side pockets could have been designed a little better (more comfortable) and lined with fleece. I would highly advise shopping the internet for the lowest prices and would suggest going to shops to try the jackets on. The Virtual Fly Shop has a great classified ads website which includes new and used gear from flyshops and individuals. This (December) is the best time of the year to buy. Happy shopping.

Customer Service:
I''ve been told by several flyshops that Patagonia and Reddington have superior warranties to Simms but I have not had to use customer service as of yet.

Summary:
A very comfortable jacket to cast in. Keeps you dry as a bone and plenty warm. I've been using this jacket for all of my winter outings from fishing to ice climbing and find it a great all arounder. The adjustable waist length is great for deep wading and also great to button up when out in a kayak or float tube.

Strengths:
Tough! Great jacket to take you anywhere.

Weaknesses:
The cuffs are not as watertight as I'd like. You do occasionally get some dribbling down the arms.
Too bad the internal pockets do not have vertical zippers on them to make them easier to access seeing as they are soo deep. If they would use a waterproof zipper it'd still keep the contents dry.

Customer Service:
Haven't needed it

Summary:

WOW 4.81 out of 37 reviews, this should get flyfishing reviews best of the best award. I've been buying patagonia for over 20 years - when they were the Great pacific Ironworks. If you want the best in softwear there is no competition. they arn't cheap but you get what you pay for. Make sure you buy large enough to layer in the winter.

Strengths:

Bombproof!
Durability - I've put mine through 5 years of heavy use.
Well thought out design - what else did you expect from Patagonia.

Weaknesses:

Needs a hot coffee & warm food despenser for cold days.

Customer Service:

excellent

Summary:
Great Jacket, a must if you fish in the winter; however very expensive.

Strengths:
I am very pleased with this jacket. I've been caught in two terrential down-pours and this jacket has kept me completely dry. The back pocket is large enough to carry cloths, food, headlamp, etc.. The hood can be adjusted to fit your head comfortably. Very durable, the material seems to stand up pretty well against heavy brush. The front pockets are large and easy to access for flyboxes, tippet spools, etc.. My favorite thing about this jacket is the rod holder, which is extremely helpful/useful when tying on flies and tippets. Very light and breathable. Packs well, can fold it down to fit in a relatively small back-pack. This jacket also comes in two great looking colors. I don't have a whole lot to compare this jacket too but I'm completely happy with it.

Weaknesses:
Pretty expensive, It retails for around $315; I picked it up on sale for $220. Also the cuffs leak a little bit too.

Customer Service:
Good
