Review Abstract
The Galvan Open Back is a “quiet” reel with “classy” looks and “flawless craftsmanship.” This “lightweight” unit provides “smooth” operation, “quick” line retrieval and durability. The large arbor prevents the line from coiling, but tightening the drag knob helps. However, it also has a “smaller” foot design, which several reviewers find frustrating. One satisfied reviewer claims the Galvan Open Back is “the best freshwater value on the market.”

Price Paid:  $252.00 at ebay

Favorite Country:
Germany

Summary:
Open Back OB-6
The reel is definitely worth the money but not the right choice for someone looking for the perfect solution.

Strengths:
Good looking design, lightweight, solid, smooth touch, strong precisely adjustable break

Weaknesses:
- The spool doesn't come off eaysily using this button because you have to press the button in the opposite direction of the removal
- The brake adjusting wheel makes 4 1/2 turns from very light to very hard. That is too much to orientate and to change the setting quickly.
- The brake looses a bit of its smoothness in the very hard setting and starts to slip very slightly.

Summary:
This reel exhibits all the characteristics of what you would want in a fly reel. Smooth drag, great looks and flawless performance. I took the leap and purchased one after reading all the great reviews on this web page. I was NOT dissapointed.

Strengths:
Build Quality and drag system. Compared to many other reels, I thought the reel was easy to remove. Just remember to pull straight out.

Weaknesses:
None -- Zip. However, I'm not sure about the electric green color....it's growing on me.

Customer Service:
Have not had to use them.

Summary:
This is the best reel for the money as far as I am concerned. It will always be in the shadow of my San Miguel, but I will never part with this reel.

Strengths:
Great Drag, Great feel.

Weaknesses:
Not thrilled with the wider arbor, however that was one of the reasons I bought it. I guess I am just partial to the "classic" style reel.

Customer Service:
Never needed customer service.

Price Paid:  $240.00

Body of Water:
Falls River

Summary:
This reel is probably one of the best values on the market. The craftsmanship really is top-notch, and the reel performs without a hitch. I have the OB-5 on a 6-weight Sage, and it is great. The best part about the reel, aside from the price to performance ratio, is the drag. I have never used a reel with as versatile a drag as this reel. I have tried the Orvis Battenkill Large Arbor, and it doesn't even come close in quality or performance. They are separated in price by about $35, but there really is no comparison between the two reels.

Strengths:
Great Drag, durable, quality workmanship

Weaknesses:
none that i have encountered

Customer Service:
Haven''''t had any need to use it

Summary:
This really is one of the best reels on the market, both for function and value. This reel has the smoothest running drag that i have ever felt, with a great drag range and easy adjustment. The reel is sturdy and looks like it will last as long as i will. Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Strengths:
Great drag, efficient line pick-up, quality build and materials.

Weaknesses:
