Description Primarily used for trout and panfish with 5, 6 or 7 weight lines. New perforated frames and spools cut weight up to 8 percent for lighter, easier handling and quieter operation, durable construction, ...
Summary: This is a great reel for a beginner or angler on a budget. Thr graphite construction makes it very light weight. Though not a fan of click drags, I find this one very tolerable. Some click drags are rough and noisy, but I find it in this reel to be amazingly quiet and smooth. My princable use for this reel is for a travel outfit which I keep in my truck in case I get an unexpected chance to fish. It gets plenty of use and is holding up well.

Summary: Scientific Anglers Concept 58 series reels offer reliability, durability and all round quality to this affordable line of fly reels.Of course you should know the reel is of least importance when dealing with fly fishing.Your line and rod do most of the work so if you are a beginner, spend your hard earned cash on those aspects and worry less about the reel!Anyway the reel I have was purchased in a starter set up.The reel purchased seperately costs as much as the starter set up!It has an adjustable click drag, large vented, exposed spool for rim control when fighting fish, and is exceptionally smooth and quiet as opposed to my stiff high dollar reel.(I will mention no names).Don't listen to that fat old man trying to sell you his other brands 3M has a wonderful product with all the right features sought after by all anglers and most importantly at an affordable price.Sure you could spend 160$ on a reel with similar features but why?I fish 3 days a week and this reel has been there for me in all situations and it still comes out on top.Even though I'm no self proclaimed master angler,I know my stuff on quality, consistency and performance. This reel is fantastic!
Strengths: It does everything the high dollar reels can do!And cheaper!Adjustable click drag, smooth and quiet!
Weaknesses: None this reel is worth as much as those 150$ models, but half the price!

Summary: A budget reel. Their are better reels out there for the same money, as their are better outfits for the same money. (And there are much better reels for a few dollars more)
Strengths: Cheap (It was on sale. Original price was $200 - Far, Far better outfits available for that price.) I'm not sure if it's being cheap is a strength since the outfit fell apart(not working to me is the most basic indictment of a tools merit).
Weaknesses: I bought this reel as part of a Scientific Anglers Concept Outfit. The reel was very cheap in appearance, cheap in manufacture, and cheap in operation. It did outlast the rod though. The reel set broke within a day of use! I ended up returning the reel and outfit, replacing it with a base LLBean outfit. Much better performance, much more durable, cheaper regular price, cheaper on sale.
Customer Service: Rei-Outlet customer service is always good. Don't know about Scientific Anglers. SA's website is carp however, no information and too small pictures.
