Summary:
When I bought it, I didn't want to crimp on style, but it turned out a little bigger than I expected, especially on my smaller wrist. My friends gave me some gripe about it, but while he tries to located ourselves on the map, I usually just find the closest topo line. I love it.

Summary:
I have found this watch to be very useful, and like it very much it allows me to log runs for skiing which is the feature I use most. I have only one complaint that is that the stock band was short and didn't work well over a parka or glove. But I purchased a new band and had no problems what so ever. I would recomend this watch to anyone looking for a watch with enough features to keep them occupied for several days trying to figure out all of the features. Also would recomend this to any gear hound such as myself. By the way I would look at EMS stores at the begining of the month almost every month I've seen some other great deals in their clearance's.

Summary:
I choose the Altimax over the Vector for two reasons.

1 ) I didn't want the high battery consumption, poor resolution compass on the Vector. If you need a compass get something useable and reliable like a Silva.

2) I liked the user interface on the Altimax better than the Vector. The "Fast Cumulative" button feature of the Altimax is just what I wanted for checking cumulative ascent while mountain biking or hiking. The Vector doesn't have that feature.

Overall it's a nice instrument. Many of the feature like alarms, stop watch, and timers I'll never use, but the altimeter/barometer features work well and accuracy is excellent. The instructions aren't the best, but zero in on the features you want to use, and learn those well through practice.

Summary:
Very cool watch. It does everything you could ever want an altimeter to do. With the cumulative function the sampling rate is adjustable so it can be very accurate for day trips, or not so accurate (but still have memory) for multi-day trips. I've found it dead on accutate +/- 10' from trail head to summit.
Get this watch not the Vector, if you think you need a compass splurge and buy a $5 silvia

I would give it less of a value rating but everything hi-end like this is expensive

cons- bulky, it catches clothes somethimes.
Alarm is not very loud
