Description Upload maps from any major US city into your Map 330 GPS unit--provides comprehensive street detail for superior navigation. System requirements: Microsoft windows 95/98NT4.0 or higher, Pentium Proce...
Summary: I purchased the magellan 3140 because I live in canada and the magellan proudly exclaimed that it has nav teq maps - which are supposed to be the best gps maps for canada
after taking it for a drive I noticed it had no points of interest - every time i typed in halifax - I got nothing but suggestions for american cities named halifax
I read the information and it said more maps downloadable! so I went out and bought extra memory for it but lo and behold those maps aren't free - in fact they are kinda expensive (49 bucks per map)
so in my humble opinion magellan is the poster child for the old bait and switch scam - say one thing but do another
the maps on it are barely sufficient for canada - all the other toys that come with the unit like points of interest etc are useless because they contain no data
and they said that they have downloadable maps - which in fact they do - for a hefty sum one fourth of the cost of the unit itself for one stupid map - that is insane
I don't recommend this product, in fact I am taking mine back to the store and getting my money back

Summary: Don't buy Magellan, I just purchased Mapsend Directroute V3, I cannot unlock the software, I just got off the phone with them & they said it would take 48 hours to get it to work. My old software V1 worked ok sometimes, and it recently stopped working. I upgraded with the hope that MAGELLAN worked out the bugs, NOT!!! Now with the unit and software I invested almost $700 for something that I can't use. If I had a coule of hours I would go on hold with them again. I will never buy a magellan product again!

Summary: Tom's review is not about the MapSend. He talks about an unspecified Magellan GPS receiver and about another piece of software, not MapSend.
I was hoping for comments on MapSend!
Anyway, as far as GPS receiver go, I just got a Magellan SporTrak Map. It's a handheld with a built-in map of the US, major highways and features.
Got it for driving and hiking.
So far, driving using it works beyond expectations, and it does show me on the correct road side and the apparently correct elevation too.
Still learning about the route and legs.
Anyway, on to some review of the MapSend...

Summary: In short, I'll never buy another Magellan product. I bought their highest end model with the SD expansion card plus the Streets & Destination software. On major highways, I was usually 100 feet to the side minimum and kept crossing from one side to the other. While driving home on local lanes, it showed me driving across fields and through houses. I ended up in my driveway, but being told I was 3 blocks away. I switched to a Garmin 76S and, not only does it show me where I really am (It even shows which side of the freeway I'm on), it shows gas stations, restaurants, etc. and the direction to them. Other than not being expandable to more than 24MB, it is by far the better product. Batteries are another thing althogether. I just drove over 500 miles and had my new Garmin on for over 10 hours with no power failure. The Garmin never gave me more than six hours. Finally, weather; When I put the battery cover on the Magellan, I could still see the batteries. I don't think it would have held up to water very well. The Garmin is easier to seal & is water-tight.
Customer Service: I sent everything back to Comp-U-Plus. It seemed easy. I'll let you know if I feel they took too large a restock fee. Right now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

To recap: Magellan SUCKS, Garmin ROCKS
