at Sierra Trading Post Summary: This review is for the Salomon Authentic 6 (no Goretex).
PROS: No break-in required- these boots are soft and comfortable right out of the box. Sole had good grip + support and wore well. Good ankle support and they fit my feet really well.
CONS: Durability was so-so. They held up for 3 years of all-purpose use, which seemed reasonable to me. In the end, the seams started peeling away- I'm getting one-piece leather uppers for my next boots.
VALUE: Great. I got them for cheap and they should be even cheaper now, given that they're discontinued.
All of this means nothing without some info about me: I weigh 165 lbs and carry a reasonably heavy pack (35-40 lbs). Most of my hiking was 2-3 day trips on rocky trails in the Northeast. Similar Products Used: This was my first pair of real hiking boots.

, from Santa Barbara, Ca, USA Summary: This boot is the best boot I have ever owned. I've had it for over two years. It is a comfortable shoe. I have used it for many backpacking trips for up to 10 days and the boot even lasted me for a 6 week trip into the wasatch mountains in NE Utah. I hiked through snow, rain, mud, and other stuff I don't want to mention. It has been only recently that my boots have begun to deteriorate and mimimaly at that the only problems ive had have been one of the eyelets has begun tor rip out and that at the toe of the boot the leather connects to the sole has begun to pull away from the boot. Negative: boot is a little heavy. Positive: Durable good price kept my tootsies as dry as a bone. Similar Products Used: Hi-Tech Serria Lite 2

, from Garden Grove, CA Summary: Have used these boots on more than a half dozen trips (up to a week each), and have found them to be sturdy. After I got them broke-in, they have proven to be fairly comfortable, although they are a little heavy. I take good care of the boots and waterproof them religeously (they have never let me down in wet conditions).

Day Hiker
, from Bellefonte, PA, USA Summary: I own these boots about a year and they are the most COMFORTABLE boots I EVER owned. I've really punished these boots. I primarily Day hike, but I weigh over 200 Lbs and usually carry a day pack with about 25 lbs of gear and water. I have managed to tear away one of the lace hooks, and the sole started to separate fromthe leather near the toes. I used ""FreeSole"" to repair them and it seems to have done the job. I knew they were slightly lighter weight than what I needed when I bought them, but I couldn't resist the fit and comfort! Customer Service: Solomon's Web site hasn't been updated in ages. I understand they discontinued the Authentic 6 and 7 and my local dealer doesn't know what they are going to replace them with. You can't send them an email inquiry on their Web site. Similar Products Used: Salomon Authentic 7, Timberland EuroHikers, One Sport Morraine.
