Price Paid:  $325.00 at mainpeak (Perth)

Summary:
Note -price given is australian dollars for the new model with M4 sole.
Mine are a new model, so don't be surprised if they don't look like the photo above. Now are made from a "roughcut" 3mm leather (a "suede" finish). The soles came off mine twice apparently due to a problem with vibrams supplies of larger size soles on the manta and SL. Seem to be fixed this time! Boots were replaced with new ones each time no problem. As these boots are very stiff the correct fit is important. The toe is to my mind a little narrow, I don't do up the last D-ring so they expand a little, but I have weird size 47 feet... They don't really seem like a boot that would do a lot of "breaking in", so make sure they're right 'cause they won't stretch!. Leather is silicone tanned for great water resistance, so they don't have a waterprof membrane liner and can dry out faster if they do get wet. Great for mountain walking in non-technical situations. Not recomended for looking cool at the shops as they are not flexible enough for a pair of loafers. We have no snow in WA, but there's crampon fittings if somone in USA can tee-up a nuclear winter for us all. Last pair of boots were vasque sundowners ; by comparison, Mantas are far stiffer and heavier.
I give a four and a four because of my sole trouble and the fact that they may drive some people mad if they don't break in.
For toughness of uppers, don't look any further.
