Initial observations after receiving my Tecnica Alta TCY's are these boots are MOST EXCELLENT!!! Although I have not been able to thoroughly test the boot and offer a performance review at this time, I'm impressed with the overall quality of construction, attention to detail, usage of technologically advanced components and materials, their light weight, comfort, etc.
I travel on foot at least 50 miles per week over all sorts of terrain and through all kinds of weather conditions. I need a boot to withstand the rigors and elements! If the boots perform as well as they appear constructed, these boots will surely be unbeatable!!
Personally, I'm looking for these particular performance characteristics in a boot when categorized as heavy backpacking: longevity, support, and comfort. All traits being equal in importance and positively sustainable in each category at the same time. These traits are not only indivisable in nature; but, are truly a categorical imperative for me.
I will plan on submitting a performance review at a later date for those interested in the results.
Although, my street shoe size is a 9 D (w/high instep) I find that the fit of the 9.5 Medium style boot serves me well leaving ample space in the toe box area and room for a heavier weight sock, if I need.
In a shoe and boot world where heel rejection is sometimes the accepted norm, Tecnica seems to have addressed this issue well. Especially in a backpacking boot, I feel heel retention is a particularly important feature in the fit of any boot or shoe.
The lacing system on this boot is excellent. It is one of the best systems I've ever had the opportunity to use. An upward pull on the laces tightens the boot securely for a positively custom fit. No more holding your finger on the previous lace with one hand while fumbling with the other hand to pull the lace to the next level.
Tecnica must have gone the distance in foot research since this boot has a very natural feel of fit. I can say this boldly since my foot is not of an ordinary ilk. I have a difficult time, to say the least, in finding shoes that fit the contours of my feet.
Break-in should be a minimal investment in time and a relatively painless experience when compared to some boots that immediately feel like a modern day Iron Maiden.
These boots truly do have a nice, natural fit. The action of the boot when walking appears to create a rocker step motion. This action helps propel the foot forward when in stride. This feature should easily provide for at least several additional trekking miles.
And, this boot seems to have found the balance between being too stiff or too limp. This boot offers better than average support for those prone to ankle twists.
As an additional feature, this boot can be fitted for step-in crampons creating an all-purpose boot. With all types and styles of crampons available these days for different outdoor activities, this is an added bonus for this boot.
First impressions say "looks like a tough boot that is up to any task."
Anyways, it is time to take these boots to the task. More later....if you're interested. Similar Products Used:
