Reviewed by: Doug Sandula , from Saginaw, MI USA

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
I owned a pair through the late 1970's and 1980's. Back then they were without a doubt, THE BOOT. Things have changed and improved (at least from my point of view). For goodness sakes, they weigh over 5 pounds! and read the reviews: "It took me a year to break them in". Yeah, they've got a ton of support and they wear like iron but I used to think the best thing about them was taking them off. I love my Sundowner MX 2's. They (Montana's) just weren't right for my type of backpacking, 5 - 10 mile hikes with a 45 pound pack. There's more modern stuff out there. Would you be comfortable with the technology a 25 year old Kelty frame pack offers?

Reviewed by: Al Belote ,  Backpacker , from Nashua, NH, USA

Price Paid:  $295.00 at REI

Summary:
I have owned these boots since 1979 (yes 20+ years) and the performance and durability has been incredible. I have put countless miles on them in all kinds of conditions, all seasons. Day hikes, 3-4 day backpacking trips with 60 lb. pack, mountain climbs, New England, Rockies, Cascades, Olympics, even around-town use. Have re-soled them twice. They never leak, can take any abuse, provide incredible support and protection. They are heavy, but worth the weight if protection and support are important to you. You can re-sole them...lots of molded boots you can't.

Summary:
I can't imagine ever having to buy another pair of boots for backpacking. Though it took me a season to break these in, they are the most comfortable boots I have ever had. I have backpacked for a week with these boots and my feet held up much better than my shoulders.

Reviewed by: Allen Campbell ,  Backpacker , from Mountain Home,AR. USA

Summary:
These are GREAT boots!! I have been using them for about 3 years and I am
convinced these boots will last forever. I've used 'em on long hauls under heavy
loads on really rough terrain and nothing fazes these things.
they are on the heavy side, but the weight is well worth it for the support and protection they deliver. They take awhile to break in so make sure You give them
time to conform to Your feet before heading off to the woods.
If You are looking for a pair of bombproof,go-anywhere,last forever boots, these are
what You are looking for.

Summary:
These boots rock! I will never buy a better boot that can take anything on the trail and still keep me warm, dry, and comfortable. I even hiked without socks and had no problems (though I wouldn't recommend it).

Customer Service:
Great customer service. They'll go out of their way to help you out.
