Price Paid:  $75.00 at L.L. Bean, Freeport, ME

Summary:
My wife bought this stove for me as a gift, after she saw me drooling over it. It's primary characteristic is the incredibly light weight and compactness. Despite that light weight, it produces a lot of heat. It is also highly adjustable, from full blast to simmer. The proprietary Snow Peak isobutane cartridges come in two sizes (regular and small). I have also tried the stove with a butane canister from another manufacturer, and it seemed to work fine (don't blame me if yours explodes!).

Bottom line: although it is fairly expensive, this is a great little stove that is really useful for minimalist trips where every ounce counts.

I also have a Optimus Svea white gas stove, and an old Primus butane stove. The Optimus is my choice for wintertime, due to the very low temperature capabilities of the white gas. The old Primus has pretty much been replaced by the Snow Peak, except for some car camping when the Primus' larger size makes it good for holding bigger pots.

Reviewed by: J. Ben Newman ,  Backpacker , from Salem OR, USA

Summary:
I used the Snowpeak titanium on a hike around Mt. Hood last year, and was surprised at how well it functioned, and how long the gas canister lasted. It was a 4 day hike, & I'd guess the canister would last another 1-2 days, even after we had to melt snow for water one overnight.
The stove started easily, adjusted from a roar to simmer (though the adjustment was a bit sensitive) and was light as a feather. I liked it so much, I purchased the little solo titanium cook kit to go with it, and I'm considering the purchase of their lamp as well.
I realize the price is a bit steep, but I feel I've gotten my money's worth with the lightest adjustable blowtorch around.
