A good sturdy tarp, I have used it both car camping with the supplied steel poles and backpacking using hiking poles. I use three adjustable hiking poles for backpacking one at each end and one located in the middle. There is no additional reinforcement in the middle of the tarp so I would recomment against using the pointy end against it. This tarp is a bit heavier than the sil-nylon stuff that is out now. Construction seems very good, I did replace all the guys (10 of them) with Kelty trip-tease cord. Has been a great shelter for cooking, waiting out the rain or just playing cards on extended backpacks with Scouts. Weight with guys and stakes and silnylon ground sheet about 60 ounces.
