Reviewed by: Dee ,  Car Camper

Price Paid:  $229.00 at REI

Summary:
I've had this tent (bought new)for 5 years. Previous reviewers pointed out problems with zipper jams on doors -- I have these, too, but no attributable damage as yet. Another weak area is Kelty's use of heavy fiberglas poles (4 of them!). Pole weight is a consideration for hikers, but doesn't affect me as I am a motorcycle camper. But, the use of 4 poles makes for time consuming set-up. On the plus side, it is roomy, airy, and bright. I've never used it in heavy rains, but have seen no leakage in light-moderate rain. It has weathered continuous winds of 15 mph with gusts to 30 mph with no difficulty. Set-up was difficult in the wind largely due to the number of poles needed, but it was stable once staked-out.

Customer Service:
An elastic loop on the tent footprint became detatched due to poor stiching. Easily repaired by me, so no need to return to Kelty.

Reviewed by: dphiker ,  Backpacker , from Shrewsbury, MA

Price Paid:  $139.00 at Sierra Trading Post

Summary:
..Great backpacking tent for the group that I backpack with, two 12 year olds and two adults (the adults split the tent weight up in our backpacks). Two doors are nice as you do not have to crawl over everyone to get out if nature calls in the middle of the night. I also use this as "car camping" tent when setting up a base camp doing day hikes. Several rain storms, not a drop inside. There is a flange around the door zippers that can get caught if not careful, in fact, I got it caught and ruind the zipper trying to get it loose. Sent it back to Kelty, repaired quickly at no charge.

Customer Service:
Kelty Customer Service Excellent. Have had more experiences other than the one listed here and have been very satisified with the results and repairs. Every time, at no charge. Even on a piece of equiptment that was 8 years old!!!

Summary:
This tent is awesome except for the zipper flange. The zipper gets caught frequently and is a bear to get unstuck. The awesome part of this tent is that it can "virtually" float in a very heavy rainstorm. Recently got caught in a 9" rainstorm, when we went to sleep we were on a waterbed. No water made it inside. Amazing!
