Scientific Anglers Striper Taper Sinking Line Review

Scientific Anglers Striper Taper

Description
The newest of the Monocore revolution, nearly a decade ago! The clear striper line shoots a mile, delivers in the wind, has little memory, and is the best intermediate line for saltwater.

Summary:
It is the perfect "BLEND" of a WF-SINKING-line and a Shooting Taper system, plus it is calibrated for a specific # Rod Weight. It has very useful med-sink running line. Delivers flies I never dream of throwing that far with a #9 rod, with or with-out strong wind.

Customer Service:
Not needed yet! heard it is very good.

Summary:
After hearing good things about this line I purchased a clear internediate sink. I have been very disappointed. while it does cast and shoot well, and has stood up well to regular use, it has a lot of reel memory and comes off in a coil, apparently regardless of the temperature. It ends up like a giant spring at your feet and constantly tangles. I have tried stretching the line, removing it from the reel and storing loose etc, but it makes no difference. The frustration of constantly sorting out tangles makes me put it aside. Its a pity because it casts very well, seems to have excellent lasting ability, and has a nice degree of stiffness. If SA could sort out the coilnig problem it would be great, but now its just a pain.

Summary:
I have no doubt that this is an excellent line for the Norhteast, or coldwater saltwater fisherman. It is made to be extra supple so it has low memory in cold conditions. If you fish mostly in warmer locales, don't get near this line. It is so supple that you spend more time trying to untangle the knots this line constantly gets itself into instead of casting. Regardless of whether you're using a stripping basket, lying the line at your feet, or stripping it into the water, this stuff constantly tangles. It is a real pain in the ***. In addition the mono core is not very durable. This is my second batch of line. The first one cut in half about 50 feet from the tip. I figured it was propably my faught, I probably cut it on an oyester bed, or was not careful enough with it. After paying 56 bucks for the second line, I made a concentrated effort to be exta careful with this line. Here I am about a month into the second line and this line is nearly cut in half about 10 foot from the tip. In the future I'm going to make sure a buy a line with a braided core. Also, the line has to constantly be stretched when you fisrt get it off the reel to manage the line memory.

When this line is not doing all the things stated above, it is great. I can cast long distances into the wind better with this line better than any 8 weight should. It really turns over a big flie well. I have no doubt the clear line adds a great deal od stealth to this line. I'm getting ready to head to Florida this weekend for Reds, Bones, and Snook. This line will definitely be replaced before I head that way. For the Southern flyfisherman, it looks S.A's Bonefish, or Saltwater taper is a much better choice.

Customer Service:
Have had good service with S.A. with their other lines. Will find out soon enough with this one.

Striper Taper

Summary:
I fish off the jetties in Cape May, New jersey almost every day in the summer and the line holds up well. It's great for sinking below the waves and I like the fact that its clear. I did get the line buggered up under some jetty rocks and the barnacles scratched it up some, but the line still shoots out there and rarely gets coiled up in my stripping basket.
