Patagonia Deep Wading Jacket Wading Jackets Review

Patagonia Deep Wading Jacket

Description
Three inches shorter than the venerable SST, this new three-season waterproof/breathable shell lets you wade deep and cast long. It's cut full to fit over a fully loaded vest, but the fabric feels soft and it compresses easily in a pack.

Summary:
Once in a while a product comes along that you cannot do without. This is that product. I have used this jacket for the last 2 years every trip (60+ days per year). the jacket i have is the old style (same as SST but shorter with velcro bellowed pockets and 3 d rings - 2 front one back, no packet on back)
why Patagonia changed for that design tot he current one with vertical napoleon style zips I do not know
they changed form perfectuion to anonymity.
I recently lost my jacket somewhere in either my house or my father in laws (I suspect he wants it for himself!) and so am looking for another one. I am HOPING that i cna get the old style as described.

The jacket has kept me warm and dry in fresh and saltwater in temps from -4C to 25C, with only a hose off after saltwater use and looked as good as new and was totally 100% waterproof like the more expensive goretex claim to be.
I hate to refer to anything as late and lamented but if i cannot find my jacket that is how it will be remembered - as the pinnacle of fly fishing jackets

Summary:
I picked up the 2002 model of the Deep Wading Jacket at Sierra Post for $100, a hell of a deal for a great fishing jacket. It's waterproof and breathable, and best of all, light enough that it is comfortable even at 70+ degrees. I have a Marmot Gore-Tex parka that is an awesome parka, but I sweat my ass off in it at anything over 50 degrees or so. Plus, the Patagonia is cut real short, just above the waist, perfect for wading.

Summary:
This is an incredible jacket that does the same as the SST only not as heavy. Granted you have to wear an R2 or similar fleece (insulating) garment, but if the weather is that extreme, I won't be out fishing. Been there, done that, took the photo's.... Expensive but worth it if amortized over time (explain THAT one to your significant other)

Customer Service:
world renound if you need it
