Summary:
Own Super 5, Super 6, Super 7, Super 10 and BG 1. Fish trout and steelhead 40+ days, including large redband rainbows in Central OR. Drag has no start up inertia and is very smooth. Reel is durable and reliable. Have landed 10 lb. trout on 4x tippet without fear of break off.

Customer Service:
Excellent. Broke the handle on my S10 on the first outing, called Abel and they send a new one (with screw) free. Went to England and asked about spare parts before leaving -- Abel sent spare locknuts no charge. Didn't realize they charge til I got back and saw a price list.

Summary:
I used my new Abel Big game .5 reel in Montana for 10 days of fishing. While any reel can hold line, the strength of this reel is the drag. It is butter smooth and never jerky even when wet. If you hook a big fish on a 5 wt rod, and he runs wildly, your only chance is to play line out very smoothly. That little fly in his mouth while flip right out otherwise. This reel also looks and feels super nice.

Summary:
I got a great deal on the discontinued old porting style, have just used it in fresh water so far (Taking it to the salt in 2 weeks) But I must say this reel is by far the nicest I've ever handled. The beauty of it lies not in the perfectly smooth anodized finish or flawlessly machined parts, but in its SIMPLICITY of design. Especially the cork drag. A minimum of parts tells me this thing will never fail me under any condition.

Customer Service:
Never used, seems like the warranty could be a little more comprehensive.

Summary:
well my two abels are fantastic, I do not have any complaints about them other than the price. I believe in investing in the best the first time and bought Abel. I use the #3 for stripers, tarpon, permit, blues, and the occasional shark or cobia. i use the #2 for reds, trout, weakfish, steelhead, salmon, flounder, albacore, bonito, bones, and snook. i hope to purchase a #.5 for inshore saltwater as well as my trout and steelhead reel. Abels are indeed the best.
