Still can't believe this pack was less than half of retail. Quality is first rate and there are many design features that make this one outstanding value. I was like "Jansport huh?", all I have to say is I am thouroughly impressed. Not a better deal in my gear cabinet.

I just got my Rockies II so I can say too much yet about actual perfomance on the trail, BUT...I just wanted to add something to the previous comments. Jansport is very in tune with their customers and is constantly upgrading their products to meet their needs, and so it is with the Rockies. Previous reviews of this pack mentioned that it would be just great if it only had: a removable daypack, a built-in hydration system, and better load controls. Guess what? My late 2002 model has ALL those things. The side pockets are also completely compressible, so if you're worried about hanging them inside of tight places (chimneys, etc.), they can be made to be virtually non-existent by emptying them and flattening them with the compression straps. It seems to me that the people who try to put this pack down as something less than top-notch are just sour because they paid three times as much to get a pack that is no better than this one. This is an outstanding product and value.

Customer Service

Haven't had to call upon Jansport yet, but I hear they're 2nd to none in this dept.

I am a very frugal buyer who tries to find a good value for my money. This pack was by far the best buy. For all the features this pack has (same as the big boys) the price was quite nice. It has all the important items: frame sheet, alum stays, load shifter, s-curve straps. the only thing it was missing was a hydration pocket. BE CAREFUL you have so much room you may over pack

Customer Service

have used warranty service on college backpack and instead of fixing the problem (stitching coming loose) they sent a new pack. wow!

OK... so my backpack is actually the Rockies II version, but they didn't have a review for it so I thought that this would be close enough. Even though some may think that you have to pay big bucks to get a quality pack- let me put it to you this way. This pack took me through Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, England, Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands. It was great, it had a lot of space for the price, and I didn't have a single problem with it. There is no zipper between the sleeping bag compartment and the main area, but hey, who cares. You don't really need it anyway. But seriously, I looked and looked, and this was definitely the best when I compared price and quality. You can go and buy some $300 pack, or you can buy the Jansport Rockies pack which is just as good (I should know, I bought a $279 REI pack and returned it when I found the Rockies pack). It was great, and it took me throughout Europe with no problems.

Customer Service

Haven't had to use them, but I've heard from many, many people that they are the absolute best when it comes to customer satisfaction.

This backpack offers a great deal considering the low price, quality of the pack, and the amount of space it offers. I bought this pack because I need to carry lots of gear (including lots of water) through desert-like, mountainous terrain. The pack is perfect for that. With all the pockets, my partern has instant access to smaller items. I used to have a pack without external pockets. I hated it because everytime I needed a small item, I had to dig through the entire main compartment. I''m also very happy with the quality of construction. Its very solid, and should something break, I know I can rely on Jansport''s great customer service. I really don''t think this is only an entry level pack for weekend-warriors. I may not be superlight, but at least it fits well!! This thing is also very adjustable and comfy. On one occasion I hauled this pack up Guadalupe Peak in the Southwest Texas desert. With all the water in it, this pack weighed over 100 punds. Nothing ripped or tore. The only complaint I have is that the top compartment is so large, that stuff in it often drifts towards the neck-line. But this can be soved with proper packing skills. Don''t let the price fool you into thinking that this is a poor-quality pack. It''s simply one of those rare good deals.

I''''m not sure why this pack is getting bashed as some entry level boyscout pack. As if a serious backpacker shouldn''''t waste their time with it. This pack is very comfortable and it is also huge. If you don''''t want a large pack, this is not for you but if space is what you want it is a great pack and Jansport is the best at customer service. I recently did a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. Due to continuous problems I was having with the pack that I started with I switched to this one with about a thousand miles to go. After 1000 miles of hiking with this pack I had no problems and found it to be very comfortable. Perhaps it isn''''t good enough, or expensive enough, for some but I don''''t think of myself as some beginner hiker and I found that this pack performed beautifully.

Customer Service

Can''''t be beat.

This a good boyscout/ entry-level pack.
It's a very basic, cheap and traditional
internal frame pack. Like most things, especially gear, you get what you pay for. So don't expect a top of the line pack for this price!

So with this in mind, this is not a bad pack for the price. I rank it right with North Face as far as fit and quality. If you like lots of pockets and don't mind the weight this pack is for you.

Customer Service

I have to say that Jansport has some of the best warranty departments I've seen.

Great backpack for the price. The only problem that I found is that the upper compartment tends to be too loose while using lower loads especially in the 100 model.

One thing not mentioned previously is that the Garcia bear canister (which you are now forced to carry in some areas) will fit inside sideways with no problem. This is a tricky thing to strap to my external frame pack.

I have the older version of this pack which has no zipper between the main and sleeping bag compartments which I wish it had. I am not fond of the design of the side pockets which are essentially
"hinged" on one side by stitching and attached on the other by adjustable straps. The zipper pulls also yanked out at the drop of
a hat until I squeezed the metal loop they attach to on the zipper sliders with pliers. I also found that my hips hurt with a heavy load.

Lest one think that I have only negative things to say about this pack, I find it to be a good pack, is light for the load it can carry
(one saves a couple of pounds here compared to similar packs),
is generally well made like most Jansport products and is a
truly great value - especially on sale. I would imagine that if
they added a frame sheet as mentioned by others, the new version
may be a tad heavier. There's room for just about everything and
I have no problem with the top pocket zipper that other people complain about. I'll be taking it on a trip next week carrying much less than I usually do so we'll see about the hips after that one.

Customer Service

I had experience with Jansport's customer service after my Jansport D-2 pack frame broke at the hips 20 miles from nowhere. They immediately replaced the frame with no real need for the documentation that I provided. They did this for me twice as I recall.
I have the highest regard for their warranty as they actually stand by it!
