Wonderful little stove. Perfect size for hiking and powerful enough for big meal cooking. The burner`s a little on the small size for frying stuff but surprisingly very wind resistant.

cheap, almost silent, light and easy to use. no problems at all with quality. can be poor in very windy or swirly conditions as there is no real wind shield. which is another way of saying get behind cover. a universal adaptor that can be screwed in for non-threaded canisters would be a really nice feature.

I'm very pleased with this stove. It worked like this: Turn on, light up. Very simple. Very light. Very reliable. I've used this stove at below freezing temps in Yoho in October in a snowstorm. Lit right up, and cooked my food splendidly. The flame goes wide enough to cook over an average sized pot without too much of the hot-spot problem. The flame is adjustable enough to cook rice or simmer, but when simmering be carfeul to stir constantly. Con: After repeated use the little clip (poor excuse for a wind shield) suffered from differential expansion and was too big to stay clipped on. With some pliers I made it fit and stay clipped on. You can't even tell. That is a pretty minor problem. I'm not sure how much good this little clip does in windy conditions, but I'd rather have it on than not. In any case some innovation is needed to keep it protected from the wind. The fuel canisters can be recycled. I know that MEC in Calgary has an apparatus to safely crush them and they send them out to be recycled. If they have such a program, I'm sure other stores dp as well. Great stove. Great price. Light weight. Easy to use. Would recommend to anyone. Just remember, if you're planning to use in winter, don't. White gas stoves are needed for that because the isobutane/propane cannisters cannot stay pressurized in cold.

I was very skeptical about this little stove after recieving it as a x-mas gift. I thought "neat little cheap gift". I recently tried it out at work, thinking if it doesn't work there no big deal I'll drive to subway. I work on billboards so its trial would be quite similar to rock climbing conditions. It screwed on nicely I thought, turned the valve heard the gas discharging and grabbed a match. I realized right then it was pretty windy (15mph), so I used my body to block the wind and quickly lit the match near the unit. It lit. Impressed I put my homemade chili in a stainless bowl atop it and was suprised to see it bubble within 30 seconds or so. I kept stirring for about 2 minutes and the chili was hot enough I had to blow it cool before putting it in my mouth! I like it very well so far. It never blew out (with a little common sense) and cooked fast totally exposed on a 38 degree day with descent amount of breeze.

I bought this because I couldn't afford a liquid fuel stove, and it was the lightest and cheapest available. I was very suprised at how well it worked. In below freezing conditions without doing anything to heat up the canister it performed well and boiled water. Fuel didn't run out at the end of the 3 day trip, I may use it for the next trip I take. It was hot and loud. I will say if you buy this, a windscreen is a must but you can also just shield it with your hand.

I'm very pleased with the Pocket Rocket. It's as small as it gets as far as stoves go, inexpensive, and it performs great. Boils a pot of water (1.5 liter) in about 5 minutes. It can also simmer, although I mainly use it to boil water to add to my dehydrated meals. I was a little skeptical about the fuel before I bought the stove. After using it on a weeklong hike, I was very impressed with how long a can of IsoPro lasts. Do some research before deciding whether to buy a liquid fuel or a canister fuel model. They both have their pros and cons. I think I will buy the MSR Whisperlite liquid fuel model for longer trips when more cooking will be needed or when cold weather is an issue. For short trips in warm weather in a small group, the Pocket Rocket is the way to go.

Extremely disappointing. I took the stove home, tried it out in my kitchen for about 30 seconds, it worked fine. I figured no problem, it's a foolproof butane/propane stove, right? Tried using it in Chaco Canyon and the Grand Canyon. This was in January, I knew butane/propane stoves would have problems, I thought I could keep the canister warm by having itin my sleeping bag during the night or putting it in my pocket during the day. No go, but I figured, hey what can I expect at below-freezing temps? Didn't try it again until a recent summer backpack. Still no go; very weak flame, not enough to boil water -- this is near sea level with temps in the 70s. A friend suggested simply unscrewing and re-screwing the stove to the canister -- tried that one last time, still no go. No flame at all. (I did check the canister -- the first one had somehow leaked out all its fuel, but I had a brand new full one.) After that, I returned the %$#@ stove. Piece of garbage. I expect a butane stove to work like this: turn on, light up. This one did not. Took my MSR Whisperlight on my last trip, having returned the Pocket Rocket. Had to do the usual fiddling and priming, but it worked, unlike the Pocket Rocket.

This is a great lite weight stove. A small can seems to last me forever, and my test showed it boiled cold tap water in about 4.5 mins. I would not recommend for windy/winter use. It has blown out on me. At 35$ and 90g. you cant go wrong.

By far the best backpacking stove I have used. I have had absolutley no problems with this little stove and it continues to perform for me time and time again. Fast boil time, easy to use and best of all it fires up in a second. No pumping gas canisters or priming...just turn on and light with a match and you're up and running. You cannot beat this little stove for its performance, weight and size. You owe yourself to go buy MSR's best invention yet. Can't say much for my other stove...the MSR WhisperLite.

Extremely pleased with the weight and performance of this tiny stove. Unlike a few other reviewers in this forum, I have never had an issue with my stove not performing in sub-freezing temps (although 10 degrees is the coldest this stove has been exposed to) and I have successfully simmered food under the same conditions (approx 25 degrees) using the stock MSR Isoprop. fuel canisters. One other thing, this stove is incredibly efficient. I've done 18 meals in 3 days, not including boiling water, and still had fuel left in the one canister. One negative, it is difficult to balance some pots and pans on the small surface...wind screen (bought, made, or natural) is essential! Overall, HIGH, HIGH marks!
