I have had two of these since the late 1990s. Both work great. One was even immersed in mud/rain during an unexpected deluge-and after rinsing worked great. After looking at newer stoves I love them even more! They SIMMER really well! Work well even in cold. The newer Primus ETA pots mate to the burner, making it a jet boil. Versatile!

It's now 2012 and I tried to hang on this Apex II stove since I bought it 2003. It was good at first but after 3 years the pump assembly plastic head cracked and leaked fuel. We had to go back to town to buy an MSR Pocket Rocket. I forced to buy a replacement pump assembly for $40-more than half the whole stove's cost! But I misplaced the pump assembly in 2012. Despite this I think it's good riddance as I know that plastic part will break again. Time to change to a more reliable stove like MSR. The Apex II could have been a good stove except for bad plastic parts which will contract or expand and eventually fail later. The replacement parts in 2012 lists most parts as discontinued-indeed good riddance!

Bought this via e-bay last year, it was a 'new' stove, but was several years old. It worked great in several White Mts New Hamp. trips, then the plastic pump assebmly developed a crack, & leaked. It was not dropped, it just cracked. Cost to replace pump assembly, $30, plus shipping. I'll not be replacing the pump, rather getting a better/sturdier 'not all plastic' pump assembly, looking at a primus, or MSR.

I've used this stove in almost every condition. From 20 below to 110. From snow and sleet to a nice summers day. And, all around its a pretty good stove during the summer, at low altitudes. Above 7000 the flame is weak and it goes through fuel horribly. At higher altidues it is actually lighter to bring a simular Coleman because of the weight you save in fuel. In the wind this thing is pretty good. And in the extreme cold it is still easy to get going, but again the heat output is poor. All around this is a great three season stove, but take don't take it along in the extremes.

Have had the stove for over 3 yrs, out on many trips. have had np problems until recently, fuel line leak, called coleman, replace sent right out. like the stove alot, great simmer stove. the pump assembly is a little weak compared to msr, primus, and takes a while to get good pressure, but when you do chugs right along like a train.

Customer Service

Leak in the fuel line, sent me a new one, no questions, real fast, had the new part in 5 days.

This is an excellent stove. I first bought mine about 5 years ago and have used it 10-15 days each year since. The only maintenance needed was a rebuild on the pump assembly a year ago. Easy to light, adjustable, the only disadvantage is the weight. Recently I found a newer model which had been returned to REI and bought it (for 6$) at a scratch and dent sale. After replacing the generator ($8)I had a brand new stove. What a deal!

An excellant stove. Starts well. Has an excellant slow cook capability. This is a stove that works well with ovens, as it cooks slow enough to bake without burning food. High temps are good, but could be better. Fairly light but could be better. Feet allow good stability, have never had a large pot spill yet. Have not had to perform field maintenance yet.

Great stove! Ive had had this stove for about 3 years and it hasn't given me any problems. Its not the lightest thing in the world but its sturdy and works all the time. I like the adjustability and heat range and it starts up petty easy. Just be easy on the fuel when starting it up, dont create a small pool of fuel around the burner...

I am primarily a canoe camper, I have used this stove quite a bit and I love it. I sometimes use it with an Outback Oven due to the fact that it can be turned down to a low simmer. It also has the high heat to cook anything else. I really haven't tried the dual fuel but it is there if I need it. It is a good stove and I reccommend it highly.
