A good all around backpacking tent. Only downside is the weight. However the weight mostly the result of its massive interior. With 40 sq ft of floor space, it is a mansion for 2 people and gear. Oh, and for us college students $155 is actually possible.

Tried this tent for several days of non-stop rain. Only at the very end did the tent finally leak. The outer layer eventually sticks to the inner layer causing the water to leak inside. The floor began to leak at the vertice points.

Very roomy inside for 2 people and gear. I found the vestibule a great place to stash my shoes for the night, even in the rain! They were still dry in the morning.

Since our unit was a rental from REI, we found it slightly worn. The biggest wear item was the plastic snap buckles. After so many unbucklings, we found the snap part to be very loose. One big gust of wind would have ripped off the outer shell. Luckily that did not happen. Brand new, it would be impervious to mild weather.

Packs very easily. Not a struggle to unpack and set up, break-down and pack. The stakes were very durable. I pounded them hard without bending. This tent was set up in pitch black with a flashlight, not a problem.

Customer Service

We rented this unit at REI. They were very generous on the return, they let us have an extra day for free to dry out the tent.

I love this tent. Setup is simple and flexible. I have found that in tight wooded conditions you can omit the third pole, leaving you with a roomy rectangle layout that fits neatly between trees. In its intended hexagon-three-pole setup it is quite spacious for two people and plenty of gear. My only nags are that there are no opaque doors for the front and rear screens. The only way to have privacy is to install the rain-fly which sweats and retains condensation. Internal pockets and hook-straps are well placed and convenient. By divying up the poles and tent it is very easy for two people to backpack this unit. Definitely a great value of quality vs economy.

Customer Service

I have a high opinion of REI staff. I have interrogated the in-store help as well as placing numerous web orders (both from REI.com and REIOutlet.com) and have always found them to be knowledgable and courteous.

bought this tent for 3-seson hiking in israel. used during a through-hike of israel (530 Miles -about 850 KM) and countless other trips. used the tent in rain storms, moderate sandstorms, heavy winds - performed wonderfully in almost all conditions. the only problems are the tents - 7001 aluminum, which i connect to the side of my backpack, and they bent easily. mine is 3 years old and still as good as new (exclunding pole conditions, and i use cground cover) despite harrasment. a bit bulky, but very larg - that is, if u ain't over 6 foot tall. if u r - it'll perhaps be too short for u.
overall - excellent value.

Customer Service

the tent didn't need service, but i needed service for some other items - and rei were excellent.

I like this tent because of the easy set up. Two people and very little patience will have you ready to kick back in front of a roarin' fire in about 10 minutes. The tent holds up well to the wind and rain and we all know what kind of piece of mind that is worth. Happy trails

I can't even remember the name of my first tent, but talk about a piece of crap. It was a house style, slept 8 people, and had 25 poles for set up. It damn near took 4 people to set it up and the use of duct tape came in handy to hold the poles together.

A great remake of the Jansport Trail Dome. This has got to be one of the best values in tents. If properly staked and guyed, this little tent can take on some serious weather. It is a little heavy and bulky but if you pack the poles separately, it's not too bad. LOTS of room and is great for sitting in for extended periods. When you factor all of this in with the fact that REI sells this tent quite often at its fall and spring sales for $99 you just can go wrong.

Good value for the cash; roomy enough for 2 and a bit of gear; slight leakage under heavy, sustained rainfall, have used it as a winter tent by allowing the fly to rest against the windows; however, summer ventilation needs improvement because the door window and rear window are situated too high off the ground (air doesn't flow over occupants).

Customer Service

Excellent customer service - no questions asked on returns/trade-ups

A good tent: has held up fairly well with moderate/heavy use. Has withheld some rough downpours and heavy winds well. A little bulky but sets up easily and has plenty of room. Good value.

I just got the 1999 model on sale for $124. Its factory seam sealed and is quite roomy. I can put my pack inside or in the vestibule. It squashes quite flat and doesnt take up too much space in my bag.

Customer Service

REI has grrrrreat! service.
