Strength:

Weakness:
None Pur Pioneer - I have tried for the last two years to find replacement filters for this unit. I called the company and was told they are no longer making them. The sent me a new Hiker as a replacement. Don''t buy a Pioneer. They are still on the shelves at retail stores. Similar Products Used: None |

Great for anyone, because of lightweight, cheap replacement filters, but ESPECIALLY for those who do shorter or less frequent trips. At $4 each, you can use a fresh new filter for each trip adn not have to worry about what may be growing in your filter cartridge during storage between trips. Filters are lightweight and cheap enough to carry several backups on any trip in case of clogging or really bad water quality. Convenience of screwing on to top of wide mouth water bottles a big plus. Similar Products Used: Sweetwater Guardian. Clogged it up on first use. Expensive mistake. |

I had to return this filter before I even got to use it, because when I tried to find replacement filters, I realized that they aren't being produced anymore. It comes with two replacement filters, which is good for two short trips. If you intend to use a filter for more than two trips, you'd might as well buy a different model from the start, rather than have to replace the whole schebang after two trips because you can't get filters. However, if you need what is essentially a disposable product, (like for one trip) this is the cheapest iodine-free way to go. Similar Products Used: None |

I've used this filter on trips from 4 hours to 5 days and have been very pleased. While I wouldn't use this filter in tropical or populated areas I believe (and my GI system agrees) that filtering out protozoans is enough for North American backcountry. Similar Products Used: None |

The pur pioneer is a great filter. It pumps fast, and delivers clear fresh water. I dont like the fact that mine leacks but other wise, it is a great filter. Backpackers should definatly buy it Customer Service I asked them a question about the leaks in mine and they havnt responded. Similar Products Used: none other products. |

This is a great, lightweight filter. We carry it mountain biking in areas when there are water sources rather than carry the weight of extra water. This filter stays lightweight, even after pumping water since the filter element doesn't retain much liquid, unlike solid element purifiers. It will attach directly to Nalgene bike bottles (the bottles with the very effective lexan anti-crap lid). We have used the PUR Pioneer for the last 2 years on backpacking trips into the Wind River Range of Wyoming and it works great. It takes just a few minutes to fill the bottle for drinking, cooking, etc. and beats the heck out of carrying a canteen. The price is hard to beat also! Highly recommended! Similar Products Used: None |

The PUR Pioneer is an excellent water filter for the money. I have used it on many climbing and hoking trips. In one such trip to New River George in Virgina, the PUR Pioneer proved it worth by filtering water for 12 members of our climbing group for 9 days straight without a hitch! I like this filter. I don't use a filter very often so the price was an issue for me, but this thing is inexpensive and works well. I have used it in the Colorado several times and although a filter cartridge will load up after a few liters it still worked very well to make nice clean water. Yes the filters may be hard to find and a little expensive, but if you don't need a high usage filter than this is a good option for you. Similar Products Used: None |

I use this on longer back country bike trips. It's compact, lite, and easy to use. It filters what I need here in Ak. New filters are available at the local REI store for a reasonable price. Similar Products Used: None |
