Katadyn Scout Water Filters

Katadyn Scout Water Filters

DESCRIPTION

The Scout is both a filter and purifier. It kills or removes all bacteria, protozoa and viruses when water flows through its tri-iodine resin matrix. We recommend the addition of the Carbon Cartridge below to remove the iodine taste from the water. Double action pump produces 1 pint of water per minute. Purifies up to 200 gallons before cartridge replacement is necessary. Durable plastic body. Compact and lightweight. Great for very small teams and individuals. Shipping wt. 1 lb.

Excellent pump. I've used it for 5 years and it still works great and is clean. The fact you can get instant clean cold water makes worth the weight without question. I am wondering what is up with PUR therse days. I know they don't make this model anymore. Can the replacement cartidges still be found? I don't want to lose it when it finally goes. Please post if you have that info. I am fond of the 'pump' action and highly recommend it or something similar. Great value for a purifier.

I really love this water filter. It''s a really easy and conveinent pump. The Scout packs away easier than the MSRs or Sweetwaters. I love it. i take it everytime I go camoping, or hiking. Itr is so lightweight and so much cheaper than other water filters i have tried in the past!

I believe the Scout balances weight, durabilty, water capacity, and ease of use better than any other pump on the market. I love the fact that it has a charcoal filter too. This final filter can take the worst smells and tastes out of any water source I have found. Another plus is the fact that it is also a purifier, thus it can be used around the globe. Highly recommended.

This last september me and some buddies went on a three day hike to lake Katherine. one of my buddies had the PUR scout water filter, and let me tell you it saved our lives. we drew water straight from the lake using the filter and it tasted great. I liked it so much that when we got back i purchased the same one. the price was resonable however I found it on sale. what I like best about this product is the number of filters it has, th eeasy pump system to collect water straight from a stream or lake and its compact ability. I love this toy and I never go on any trip without it now. thanks.

I was able to pick this up at discount and I have been very happy with it. I like the pump handle and the base design. It fills water bottles much easier than others. It is a bit heavy and bulky, but for the level of purification which this provides and the ease of use I am very happy. Mine came with the disc like prefilter with screen rather than the acorn - I prefer this.

Customer Service

Because I purchased this at discount I did not have a manual. I called PUR and they mailed one free of charge to me. Very pleasant over the phone.

I bought this item after doing a good deal of research. I used to work at an outdoor gear shop, and would always ask people about their experiences. I read many reviews, and attended several tech rep demos. In my opinion the Scout represents the best quality/cost ratio. It is less expensive thanthe explorer, but does nearly as much work. It is easy to operate. Best of all is the fact that you don't ever have to worry about the water you are drinking. It does weigh more than some other products, but I have found that the peace of mind you get it worth a few extra ounces. Deffinitely the best onthe market!

The PUR Scout is a very reliable water filter. Before I bought one, I researched and researched for the best. I came across a research experiment conducted by a grad student in enviromental science who conducted an experiment with 5 or 6 top water filters and purifiers. His benchmark was EPA water quality standards. The report was very technical so I had a associate professor of Biology friend of mine to review the experiment's quality and objectiveness. There were no punches thrown and the PUR Scout came out on top. I have been very happy with it although my second filter did clog after about 20 gallons. Customer service replaced it free of charge very quickly and it works like a top! I like it well enough although I am looking to save room in my pack. If and when I buy a filter again I will probably purchase the PUR Vouyager due to its smaller size.

Customer Service

Response was very fast and best of all the replacement cartridge was free!

pros: incredible flow rate! i was usually finished with my filtering chore before anyone else. i like the bicycle pump design. some think it's difficult on the arms, but i didn't mind.
cons: no field maintenance is a serious downfall. i don't want to have to pack in a spare cartridge on every trip. and if you filter from questionable sources, your cartridge life decreases dramatically, so depending solely on this filter for your water source can be a crapshoot. also, i bought this filter when it had the j-hook device on the outlet hose, which usually resulted in the hose jumping out of the water bottle and getting me soaked. i think pur has a better design now.

have recently purchased an msr miniworks for it's field maintainance aspect. have yet to see how it performs.

I am on my second Pur Scout filter. The first one lasted about 4 years. Then it started to lose suction. I contacted Pur and they sent me some grease and a new filter NO CHARGE! this made it work for another 100 miles or so then it failed again while I was one the trail. I chucked it! Bought a new one because I really like the way the filter works and maybe 4 years life is acceptable. I waited for a 20% off sale to buy it however as $90 is a stiff price to pay in my estimation. So, I am a dedicated PUR filter person I guess. I would recommend it to others.

Customer Service

They were very responsive and tried to help me fix my problem. No complaints with this company.
