The SMC is great for multiple rappels such as during tactical or rescue training scenarios. It certainly does not lock off as effeciently as will such a device as the pyramid, though it will save your rope from abrading against itself on those lengthy rappels.--A major plus to this device. Given that the device is somewhat on the obese side, you will experience a significant amount of heat. Though of course, so long as you do not perform those 'smokin' movie rappels' (as no one should) you'll be fine. Overall, I highly recommend this device to anyone with multiple, lengthy rappels in their repertoire.
