Grivel G12 Crampomatic Crampons Crampons

Grivel G12 Crampomatic Crampons Crampons

DESCRIPTION

The classic 12 point crampon, designed for general mountaineering, mixed ice and rock climbing, and moderate waterfall action. Made of rugged chromoly steel, 3 dimensional relief stamping increases the strength and rigidity. G12's horizontal frame minimizes snowballing underfoot and will flex to conform to rockered boot soles. To reduce skating and add control to the decent, 4 points on each crampon have been set perpendicular to the line of travel. It easily adjust without tools and fits a wide variety of boots and sizes. G12's Crampomatic step-in binding is a perfect match for plastic mountaineering boots that have a substantial heel and toe welt. Crampons are held fast with a sturdy nylon speed lever at the heel and flexible steel toe bail up front. Grivel's stainless steel safety strap attached to the toe bail prevents total loss of the crampon should it be forced off the boot. The restraining strap is easily fed through retaining rings and cinched tight with the help of a neoprene pull tab, even while wearing mittens.

They work great. I can get into them easily whilst standing, almost like clipping into a ski binding. The long strap that goes to the toe bail gives added security, but I have never had them come loose anyway. The two ring buckle is easy to work, even with mittens if you really have to. The micro adjustable heel clip makes the perfect fit easy. I threw away the cheesy clip that allows tool-less length adjustment and use the screw and nut instead. Funny, but each time I check, my plastic boots don´t seem to unexpectedly change length! Unless you use them on more than one pair of boots per trip, I don´t see the need for the clip. So far they seem durable and functional. The anti-balling plate is probably a good idea, and I am planning to buy a set soon. I don´t think balling is any worse with these than with other similar products my climbing partners use though.
