Dagger Meridian SK Fiberglass Kayaks Review

Dagger Meridian SK Fiberglass

Description
Dagger's first composite touring kayak, the Meridian is the most agile sea kayak in our stable. The Meridian SK has a retractable skeg system, but for you essentialists out there, there is still a Meridian with a clean stern. Length: 16 ft Width: 22 in

Summary:
My husband and I bought a Dagger Meridian SK in fiberglass and a Meridian SKS in Kevlar. We paddle these mostly on day trips and they are excellent boats. We've added some additional padding in the back as the backband isn't as supportive as it might be. However, the boats handle extremely well in rough water and are very fast for their length (16'). I rarely have to use the skeg and only deploy it when seas are very rough or winds coming perpendicular to the direction of travel. All in all, we love the boats - BUT have a word of warning about customer service as recorded below. Basically - WaterMark turns its back after you have your boat...

Customer Service:
We have 2 Dagger Meridians. The fiberglass boat had a bubble in the layup and while still brand new a large chip broke off near the waterline. The boat was NOT bumped; the problem was the layup. Quite a bit of yellow-orange liquid oozed out for the first two days. The dealer told us to contact the distributor (WaterMark - in TN) who would not answer e-mail or return phone calls. Upon finally getting a human by phone I was told nothing could be done. Eventually I paid a local fiberglass reapir person (who works on yachts and did a marvelous job with my boat) to fix the 2" chip. He concurred that the problem was a manufacturing defect - and he has a LOT of experience with fiberglass repair. While I really like the design of the Meridian, I hesitate to recommend purchase of a Dagger boat because of the poor customer service.
