Rossignol Bandit XXX All Mountain

Rossignol Bandit XXX All Mountain

DESCRIPTION

For expert skiers looking for some off piste powder stashes, the Bandit XXX's wide design floats in the pow and cuts through the crud.. Integral Dualtec combines cap and laminate structures to create responsive energy transmission and increase edge grip under your foot. Developed to build skier confidence, Freeride VAS technology uses a visco-elastic material to absorb vibrations at high speeds and in variable terrain. The unique V-Flex shape and tapered aluminum top sheet allows the torsional flex of the ski to vary from tip to tail, for all-mountain versatility. To provide easy release in a variety of conditions, the V-shape tapers towards the tail for less torsional rigidity, making the ski more versatile.

Strength:

If you are an expert skier who knows how to carve, is balanced in rough conditions and you are competent at initiating your turns and don't need cheaters to slide your way down the hill, the Bandit XXX is quite simply the best ski ever made. This is a performance powder ski that does everything well. Ive had mine for 15 years, I've got 4 pairs of newer skis which just sit in my cup board. These are literally the only ski I use. I agree with the response below, please bring back these skis.

Weakness:

Bandit XXX are not meant for racing.

I bought these used on e-bay for some cheap powder boards, but when I gave my carvers (Z9s) to my son, I got the edges on these XXX sharpened and was totally blown away. These skis literally spring-back out of short swing turns, grip like rails on GS turns, work fine in the diamond bumps, and are totally good in powder. They are incredibly lightweight skis yet can blast through crud. I just smile when I hear guys on the new style reverse camber skis flap and rattle down the slopes. Rossi... please bring back these amazing skis!!! I'm a 180 pound male 5'7" level 9 skier on 178cm XXX skiing mostly Northern NM and Colorado.

the xxx is the best alpine ski i've ever used, it may be a little soft and snappy for big mtn, but at the area its untouchable, it hammers crud, is a rock solid wide and glider and most amazingly can rip a zipper line. don't get me wrong, it's not a bump ski and demands a little extra attention but it works, esp in big steep bumps.
i do kinda miss my volkl zebras on a powder day, someting cool about going deeeeep.....

I actualy have the 2003 model. Holy S----! I skied the XX 185 all day one day and was amazed. I skied hard all day long and wasn't as tired as I normally was, that's because you don't have to work as hard with this ski. I have recently purchased some XXX 185 that I demoed for one run (got booted of the mountain for off trail riding!) and I'm feeling light headed just dreaming about the first run with my new babiees! what are you waiting for. join the XXX bandit revolution!

This is the most incredible ski I've ever ridden. I bought it thinking I'd use it just for powder (90 mm waist!) but now I use it for everything. For a wide ski it's very manuverable and responsive. Powder, crud, chutes, trees, moguls, slush... it blasts through it all with ease. It's torsionally stiff, but soft enough laterally to ski moguls well (to my utter shock). I feel like I can ski anything on these bad boys. First time I can really say that my equipment improved my skiing. If you're skiing soft western snow (Utah, Colorado, etc.) you NEED these skis.

Customer Service

Rossignol's CS is great. Their sidewall technology is touchy - I cracked a wall on my Vipers. They fixed it for free 2 years after purchase. I had a binding recall and they replaced my bindings with no hassle. What a great company.

I purchased these skis as powder skis, and to compliment my longer (191) Bandit XX from 99/00. When looking around, I knew I wanted a shorter ski than my XXs since they were quite a bit of ski in tight places, so I was thinking the 185s would be the ticket. After a lot of soul searching, I went with the 178 XXX instead (I am 5'9" 185lbs). All I can say is WOW. Skiing on a great pow day here in the NW has taken on new meaning. They motor through boot deep crud like nothing, and can whip through the trees with precision I have never known. I was pretty worried that they would be too short, but after skiing 4 days on them (3 pow/1 packed) I know I made the right choice. I can turn them in the crud/moguls with ease, navigate the steep trees no prob, and still ski the groomed without giving up much speed. These are awesome skis, demo them and find the right size for you, but don't be too skeptical - try the shorter sizes out.

Its a fun ski, dont get me wrong, but rossi's flagship all mnt. fat/pow ski needs to get rid of the sidecut and get a little beefier in my opinion. This ski is a great choice for all but the hardcore cliff launcher and deep pow/ steep skier. It just has too much sidecut and when you set it on edge it likes to whip around fast like a slalom ski. But ripping around resorts is a blast on this ski it holds well at speed and you can take it anywhere, even in the park. Just beware of the 195cm version, its way way stiffer than the rest of the line and has a completely different flex pattern. I just wish they had a stiff version of the ski in the 185cm model then Id be stoked on this ski. Personally I think the stockli asteroid and the volkl explosive have this category nailed, but for a fun all mountain stick the xXx is a good choice too if you arent living in utah or skiing squaw's or jackson's steeps
