Salomon Skiing X-Scream 9 All Mountain

Salomon Skiing X-Scream 9 All Mountain

DESCRIPTION

This is an excellent ski for all-mountain skiers looking for great stability and turning precision at high speeds.. Prolink Twin V uses two fiberglass composite arms to push the tip and tail down, helping to hug the snow and cut through crud. Monocoque Titanium construction combines titanium, aluminum layers and a fiberglass monocoque for powerful edging and responsiveness. Poplar/beech wood core ensures solid and powerful ski responsiveness. Fintex uses shock-absorbing thermoplastic and a fine fibertex foil to dampen vibrations for increased contact with the snow.

I have currently put about 18 days on my scream 9 skies. This is a great all mountain ski. Love to do big mountain and powder on this ski. I have no difficulty with edge grip like previously mentioned. Great ski...I am very happy with this ski. Only reserve is that it is slightly softer than i would like. I am about 250 lbs. and have been skiing for almost 20 years. Great all mountain ski.

The Salomon XScream Skis are magnificent. I first skied these at Jackson Hole about 4 years ago. I was so impressed with them that I purchased a pair of the Series models the next week. I have read reviews that were negative and have spoken with people that didn't like them. The only answer I have to this is that perhaps these folks aren't as good as they think they are. There are far too many big mountain skiers using the Excreme Series and Series Skies for them to warrent some of the low score I see here. If you're a strong, agressive skier, try them. They eat up the mountain. They are a little softer than the series.

I skied the xscream 9 at Ski Santa Fe this past weekend. Did not like the ski. Skis edges kept catching in the back (somtimes in the front). The rental agent said a lot of other people said the same thing. These skis are for an aggresive skier only. They don't want to turn in the bumps, i.e., they want to keep moving forward and require a lot of effort to turn. They didn't feel all that good on groomed slopes either. They kind of take your breath away at 12k feet. Also, I found they forced me backwards (although I have a racing boot that launches me forward with most skis). I'm an advanced intermediate skier with an off and on skiing span of at least 30 years. My sympathetic neighbor (ex-ski patrolman) said I had a couple of "wild tigers" on my feet. I skied the K2 mod x and the K2 escape 5500 in the prior weeks. Mod X is a nice, strong ski with few suprises. 5500 is a great ski for intermediate. It wants to turn by itself. Don't get them too short because they will bounce on that last few hundred yards as you try to make it all the way to the ski rack without skating.

Phenomenal all mountain ski. Demoed them first at Mt. Bachelor - this ski has all of the great Salomon handling characteristics - quick response, laughably easy turning - coupled with outrageous performance in deep snow, wet crud or slushy West Coast powder. If it has a tiny defect, it might be agility in bumps - but nothing's perfect. Far and away the best all-around ski I've skiied. I have the X-scream 9's - purchased around 99-2000 - slightly softer than the top of the line X-Screams, but the softness adds all around skiability and versatility.

I HAVE SKIED ON MY NEW EXSCREAMS TWICE AND KEEP CATCHING MY EDGES. I KEPT FALLING AND FALLING AND FINALLY INJURED. I MIGHT ADD I'VE BEEN SKIING FOR 32 YEARS. I FINALLY ROOK MY SKIS IN ONLY TO FIND THE BOTTOMS ARE CONCAVE. NOT MY IDEA OF A GOOD SKI. IS THIS A FLUKE OR ALL THEY ALL MADE THIS WAY

I am an all-mountain expert with 35 years skiing experience, which include trees, bumps, off-piste, and groomers. I am 5'9" and 175 lbs. When Solomon designed this ski, they did something right. It has the ability to take you anywhere on the the mountain that you want to go, and not punish you for doing it. It has a silky smooth ride on the trails, and when it's time to "crank it up", it doesn't complain, or wash out. It has excellent edge holding on all but the iciest terrain. It can carve on the groomed with the best of them, as long as you stay centred on the ski. Get into the back seat, and you'll be seeing sky. Don't buy this ski too long. The longer you go, the more edge grip you give up. You have to balance edge grip with flotation on this ski since the waist is not the widest. This ski is intended for someone who wants to add an all round ski to their quiver, without paying the high price of having a different ski for every type of condition. Good for advanced intermediates to experts. Those that require more "oomph" might check out the X-Scream Series.
