I've ridden my 159 cm El Dorado on numerous mountains in all conditions and continue to be blown away by its high-caliber performance. It's a carving machine. Stiff yet flexible. It holds an edge well at high speeds. But it literally floats in deep, dry, fresh powder snow. When carving through powder it makes the coolest sound I've ever heard. It bombs down steep faces like nothing. After 5 seasons on it, it shows no signs of wear. My next board will be an El Dorado.

I have 2 Eldo's. An old 69 with the fat nose for blizzards and El Nino's and the newer '01 "combined" regular and Stealth version. I have had some problems with the bold anchors tending to pull out on the '01, but I love both boards. For big pow days (3' and up) the fat-nosed '69 is the best I have ever seen or ridden. I love that I can move the bindings back and with that fat nose the board will NEVER dive in - saving my back leg as I can nose ride the board all day long and not "stuff" it. The smaller '01 board is fast, stiff and edges very well. I have a very muscular build after 12 years in the gym and I carve really hard so I love the stiffness. With the edge-2-edge quickness and stiffness I can carve hard enough to slow down even on black diamonds and moguls. The graphite sintered base is virtually indestrictable. I have railed jagged flit rock edges sticking out of the snow @ SugarBowl and found no marks on the base. Finally, I really appreciate the grommet hole for locking the board that K2 put on the Eldo's. Why did they discontinue it?

The old fat-nosed '69 has the soft P-tex base and the new '01 had some cosmetic top-sheet flaws. I have also noticed the '01 board bold anchors are starting to pull out a little, but the shop says that is trivial to fix. I would get a replacement board if K2 still made the Eldo. Biggest weakness - U can't buy 1!!!

What R They Thinking @ K2 by discontinuing this board???

I've been riding for over 15 years and so far, the Eldo is the best freeride board I've had. I'm 6'1" and around 195, and bought the 164. It's stable on the hardpack, floats in the powder, and maneuvers well in the trees. I got a screaming deal at GartSports last Feb - had to check a few stores to find the right size. Bought this board on advice from other owner, shop guy, brother, etc. Was riding a Morrow Escape, had an Arbor Woodie (dropped that one quick) and bought the Eldo. First time out loved it. It performs like I only dreamed of, powder, crude, drops, trees, groomed, everything. This is truly my dream board. Nice flex pattern makes sketchy landings easy to recover on, wider base makes for ''softer'' landings, taper tail makes skipping through trees and moguls.
