This board is a great board for riding. On piste it pushed through anything thrown at it. this was especially noticeable with spring snow that seems to clump into little mounds all over the piste. other boards I used would skip over this like they were mini-moguls making high speed descents a hair rasing experience. However the Definition just plowed through it all and all speeds which gives you lots of confidence to push it further and faster. It also handles jumps really well and with take-offs from lips, that I wouldnt dream going over at speed with another board, I could do with ease using this. In powder, I did have to constantly think about throwing my weight right onto the back and tight tree runs just became a bit of a stop-start affair as I didnt have the same control. But for all you adrenaline speed junkies out there this is the board for you. Whooooosh

Generally speaking, salomons are terrific snowboards. They're predictable and stable at high speeds. The high end boards like the Definition, 550 series, E.R.A., and the like have this unique base that makes a funny zzzip sound when you first take off but once you get going...it's all about dodging everyone else in your way. It is extremely fast and carvy. The Definition is one of the best boards that Salomon has made to date. It's not the lightest thing in the world, but the vibration dampening is excellent and it holds an edge like a train on rails. It also floats powder very well for it's size. The effective edge is relatively short for it's length and it has the camber of a freestyle board. In terms of geometry, it's a fairly versatile and unique design. I've heard people complain that this isn't the poppiest board out there but I disagree. It's got plenty of pop. Also, this is a pretty stiff board so beginners/intermediates beware. You have to constantly be paying attention and staying on top of it. There is no such thing as "lazy riding" on this board. If cruising is your style, find something much softer than this. I will concede that Salomon's are not the most durable boards out there. It's like an indy car...high performance and short lifespan. Also, if you are into riding switch a lot, you'll have to play with your stance options before you get everything dialed. It's kinda fussy about switch but then again, it's a freeride board.

IT WANTS TO BE POINTED, HANDLES WELL IN POWDER ,AND CAN TAKE A BEATING

I HAVE RODE MY 162 FOR A SEASON AND A HALF NOW AND I STILL LOVE IT. I HAVE NOT EVER HAD ONE SINGLE PROBLEM WITH IT AND WHEN RIDING MOSTLY ON THE EAST COAST THE ICE AND POOR CONDITIONS ARE NO MATCH FOR THIS BOARD

I have had this ride out about 5 times had to wait untill I got in the pow to review. Well we just got a dump and this board does it all. Very fast on the cord and holds an edge on the hard pack ice very good. This board just wants to run so u must commit to each turn and are rewarded with lots of snap from edge to edge. Had it on the steep and deep and it floats like a dream easy to make slow deep turns or long screaming powder arcs. Good snap and solid landings off jumps. This board probably just has more flex than my last one but I can ollie alot better and launch off smaller knowls and such. Graphics are cool too. This board out performs any i have been on.

Although it has a freeride shape and a medium/stiff flex, the Salomon Forecast (new name for the 450) was rated as a Top Ten Freestyle board by Transworld Snowboard Magazine for 2003 boards. Versatile enough for you!?!?!

ABSOLUTELY NONE... PERFECT ALL-MOUNTAIN BOARD... DOES IT ALL

Hey I had the 2000-2001 model, loved it until I grew out of it by the end of last season. It was fast, held a nice edge, and although it had a freeride shape and medium/stiff flex, it was pretty forgiving in the park. I was planning on buying another one for the 2002-2003 season, but Salomon doesn't carry a board called the 450 anymore. I've heard that they didn't discontinue it, but rather, changed the name. The new name is the Salomon Forecast, and it's just as good, if not better as the ones before. I think I'm going to purchase one today actually. Great great board.

Good all around board. Lots of pop!!!! Great for big hits and getting onto rails. Fast ride, and very stable.

The Definition is a great board. It has a very fast base and is stiff yet it tracks in the snow. You do, however have to put exacting effort into each in turn and trick. It doesn''t except weak inputs. You wouldn''t expect much less from a high end board though. The graphics are simple and understandable. No weak high school art graphics or misunderstood computer graphics on the deck. The subtle sparkles on the top deck are a cool touch. The thing has major pop and has a unique ring when it lands. I think because of the carbon rods and stiffness. I just came back from a test ride trip and rode a lot of boards. I came back to Salomon every time. It does it all.

none i have noticed, heard steep moguls could be a problem but havent tried it yet more because i dont really do moguls.

What a great board. I switched from a Rossignol Nomad 2 and there is no comparison. this is an overall great board. did a bit of cruising and it turns great. The board is nice and light too. This board can throw it down in the park, landings and takeoffs are so smooth and stable. The board is also fast as hell the thing just starts flying. its god awesome pop to for ollieing onto rails and whatever else. It also hold a nice edge in the pipe. Normal price is 500 but i got it on sale and what a steal it was for 335.
