K2 Bike Fat Bob 2001 Older Freestyle Review

K2 Bike Fat Bob 2001

Description
The "Original Fatty" returns with a new core that shaves nearly a pound off last year's. A wide board that doesn't feel like a waterlogged picnic table made for lightweight freestyle rocking. Head-high line airs followed by stable, smooth landings. High-end freestyle/freeride riding performance with a wide platform to land on. Goes everywhere, does everything but shovel the transitions.

Summary:
I've been riding this board since I bought it (together with Burton step-ins and boots) for $100 in 2002, from a buddy who got it the year before and wanted the next new thing. This is a great goddamn board, and it's stood me in good stead across the U.S., Canada, and Austria; like others have said, killer in powder and dead-reliable for carving around in the groomers. I even manage to stomp my way through mogul fields on this baby (I'm 5'8" and my Fat Bob's a 162), which is unlovely but functional. Back in the days when I still healed up quickly, it gave me some big air as well. I just demoed an Arbor up at Whistler today, which felt great, but only marginally better than my 11-year-old Fat Bob. I love this board.

Got this board thinking I was just getting it for quick use and getting a new one the following year, but came to the conclusion that my board is ill and kept it.. I only paid $100 for it, BIG GAIN.. If you get a chance to get one that's your size, don't hesitate, its a win situation..

Summary:
I don't know why so many people are dogging this board. I bought it brand new in 01 and haven't had it fail on me IN 8 YEARS. Granted, it's not a suitable board for halfpipes, but if you're into that then get a board that's meant for it. This isn't my primary board (I've got a zeppelin, too), but nothing beats it in lots of powder or for carving down a run. It's stable, reliable, and gets over just about anything. The graphics, top and bottom, are awesome, too. The only complaint that I have is that the top does scratch easily. I've got a few scars from idiot skiers running over my board while in line for the lift. I don't look at this as a manufacturing problem - anything is going to slice when a sharpened piece of steel runs it over. I've never had any of the problems that people have referred to here, but then again I don't beat the snot out of my gear. If you can find one for a good price, go for it!

Summary:
This was the first board I bought and being that I wear a size 12 boot, the choices were limited with a tight budget. But Fat Boy Bob fit the bill.
Great board to learn and improve with.

Summary:
This board is great. I wear a size 12 boot and this board really works well with my mild duck stance. This board works well in all sorts of conditions. I actually teach snowboarding on this model. The wide board style makes it a great floater in the powder and on the groomed surfaces, I can really get the edge to cut in. With a nice side cut and great flexability, this board will get my big feet carving harder at steeper angles than most others out there. I love it.
