Summary:
Functionally great.

I know a helmet is meant to be bashed around and cosmetics comes a distant second place to safety, but the finish on mine is a disaster. I can flick it with my finger nail and the laquer blisters. Looked like I poured acid on it after 5 minutes. Should not do this for the money I paid.

Summary:
Let's just say I was mighty glad I had this rascal on when I got thwacked in the noggin twice by the tow bar (D'oh!). If you're a klutz like me, this cozy helmet is a godsend. Promotes confidence. Protects my identity when I fall getting off the lift.

But kool kats know that helmets aren't just for kooks. You can do wicked break-dance style headspins in the park and pipe.

Summary:
A few rude and savage heelside yard sales on hardpack at the end of last season got me thinking about a lid, so I went out and tried on everything out there. Beware: It seems like helmet sizing and design parameters are about as varied as head shapes, so I'd recommend you do the same or else you'll never use the thing. Oh yeah -- bring your goggles! All goggles are not helmet compatible and some helmets doen't do well with certain types of eyewear.

The Giro had two big things going for it: 1) it simply fit better than anything else & 2)it was in the bargain bin at REI for way less than 1/2 off. I'd also worn the company's lids mountain biking and had been pleased with their performance, but this thing could have carried the "DORK" brand on the side of it and I would have bought it because it fit so damn well compared to anything else.

That said, it really surprised me -- From the first run I didn't even notice I had it on, and that's THE issue with any helment in any sport. It's comfy and warm, the goggle strap is a nice touch, and it doesn't have any irritating design flaws. My only beef is with the vent toggle on top -- it moves, but I don't see any difference in the flow of air or lack thereof.

Other than that, I didn't like the original color, but hell -- look at what I paid for it...besides, a can of flat black spray paint took care of the style issue.

Overall, it gets a fiver for fit and fucntionality. I still wear a beanie on powder days, but if its really tracked out, icy hardpack, or narrow lanes through the trees, this is the call.
