Review Abstract
Reviewers say this “great little radio” allows skiers and snow boarders to “communicate” and “keep in touch” with friends and family while on the slopes: “Lunch has never been easier to coordinate.” In addition, users can “chat with other people on the mountain and find out where the best runs are.” Users say the Talkabout 250 is “clear and reliable” and comes with lots of “awesome” accessories and features.” Reviewers appreciate the “good range” (up to two miles) and “clear reception,” as well as the “privacy codes.” They are lightweight, but still “sturdy” and “not easily breakable,” say reviewers. One user says the 250 is a “must have.”

Summary:
Overall I feel that the Motorala Talkabout 250 was a good purchase. It was perfect for skiing in groups. I picked up the attachable, clip-on microphone/speaker which really made the use of the radio much easier. The speaker/microphone could be clipped onto your jacket and used without having to take off your gloves or search through your pockets when recieving a message. I would recommend this product although I do not have any experience with any other brands.

Strengths:
Good range and helpful when skiing and attempting to "ditch the girls".

Weaknesses:
Trees and mountains can interfere with the signal strength and range.

Summary:
I am actually reviewing the FR60. One big advantage over the 250 is the call alert feature. The 250 does not have this. Was at a ski area and you could leave this in your pocket on one of the security codes and you only heard it go off when you were called by your friend. The side button on the FR60 was also easier to use. Same range but does not have a scan feature. Look at the FR60. cheaper with better features. Batteries still OK after 3 days, mostly on monitor.

Strengths:
Handy to use.

Weaknesses:
Can get out of range. Still only 14 channels for 1,000 people.

Summary:
Due to its high cost it sucks and sould not be concidered.

When buying an FRS radio, you want - things...

Privacy codes...don't question it stupid dick

Waterproofing...if using for skiing obviously

Charger...much better than going to the store to buy batteries

Good range...if it says 2 miles it is really 1 mile for all practical purposes

Scan option...checks all frequencies over and over until it picks up a signal

And more things which I can't remember. Do not buy this stupid setup. It is a rip-off. You will be calling yourself a poop head if you get it.

The reason...

It is over two times as expensive as MANY other models with the same features like the model I bought.

Strengths:
Lets skip this part kids.

Weaknesses:
Cost

Summary:
If like me you like not having to stick to your riding buddies like glue every stage of the ride they are superb. You can trundle off for a few minutes for a bit of time to yourself (I recommend knarly singletracks), and then call them over for a race.

Also, if like me you have every crashed your steed then you will know how important it is for your buddies to arrive on the scene as quickly as possible to get that elusive wipeout photo!

And just a couple of times I've used the radio to remind my friends to get that pack of beers from the off-license (liquor store)!

So, all in all, considering the cash they are invaluable and deserve to be on everyones 'must have' list.

Strengths:
Any product that gives greater freedom with enhanced security gets my vote.

Weaknesses:
Reception not guaranteed with obstructions such as woods and mountains in the way!
