Product Year:
00-01

Summary:
Fantastic purchase. You buy these to be a life saver. Don't save money, price is no issue and this will find you or your mates quickest up to 60m, and within 30-40m at least as quick as DTS and is small, light, compact and from Red, carries the Burton famous warranty.....which is useful in something so expensive.

Strengths:
I went with this one after a lot of research. Essentially, the combination of digital and analogue is what you need, range up to 60m (compared to DTS tracker of 40m only) and conventional analogue at usually up to 80m, but slower to use. Very well designed and with use, extremely fast to locate one or many people. Don't think that anyone should be buying transceivers based on whether they are hard to learn....buy on the best available and learn properly. Die hards that are determined to stay analogue will still like this as it does both, but within 30 metres, digital is king. Also, extremely small compared to peers so you are likely to wear it all the time, and comes in a terrifically designed strap so that it stays snug and unobtrusive. Twin areal follows flux line, I have found that the digital display is clear and that the undetachable cord means that if you get hit when searching, you will not lose the kit and can be found yourself (reverts to send after no use for short time period etc...).

Great all round, this is the one to buy this year.

Weaknesses:
Display can appear a little cluttered, as there is a lot of info on a small screen, but I find no problem.

Orthovox, DTS.

Summary:
This is my favorite transciever. It has a range UP to 60 m. (Correction not just 32 m.). It is analog and digital, so you can pick up the signal with analog then use digital to to pinpoint. It has two antennas so it travels on the flux line.

Strengths:
Everything

Weaknesses:
none

Product Year:
1999

Summary:
Comes iun a really handy bag that's easy to put on. Real easy to use and to train with. You can track someone down on sound (bieps) or on sight (flashes) and the distance to target are given on a display. There's also an indication of the number of people that are under the snow (one or several) -this is not the case on the new orthovox-
With training possibly the most effective transceiver on the market!!!

Strengths:
practical & easy to use
confortable
easy access withouth a lot of trainig

Weaknesses:
Range is just 32 metres.
