Price Paid:  $599.00 at (Australian dollars)

Favorite place to ride:
Thredbo, Australia

Riding Style:
All Mountain/Freeride

Product Year:
2001

Summary:
An excellent boot, particularly if you like a stiffer style. I have very skinny legs with not much meat on my shins, so I usually get some rubbing against my shin bone with other boots...unfortunately the IONs still rub.

Strengths:
Nice and snug fit, stiff yet comfortable.
Compact profile, so you can use a narrow board. Rugged exterior, no signs of any wear after weeks of use.

Weaknesses:
Was hoping that these wouldn't rub on my shins like other boots...but that's probably my weakness, not the boots.

Price Paid:  $130.00 at Burton-Proforms

Favorite place to ride:
Hood, COP, stevens, Fortress, the Lake

Riding Style:
FreeStyle

Product Year:
2001

Summary:
Great boots for men who have narrow feet like women, keeps the heel down, light, stiff, responcive, just great!

Strengths:
super snug fit for my narrow feet, so it really great heel hold. The outer sheel is really small, so you can ride narrower boards. I liked that it was stiff, but wasn't to stiff to walk in. It was warm, great for hiking and snowshoeing. Great tred on the bottom, really responcive toe. I also think that looked cool as well.

Weaknesses:
the laces kinda suck, but all laces suck on everything I have ever had. They could make it warmer, I know I said that they were warm, but no where near my peter line 32's. Your feet would never get cold in those, but they could get to hot in the spring. They are the best pair of boots I have ever put my feet into, and I have two pairs!

Summary:
After I wore it a couple of time, at the end of the day my feet started to shift, toes moving back and forth, but i guess only because its sore and a sign of rest.
I'm feeling comfortable the next ride day. Price was big but you get what you pay for. Excellent product!

Strengths:
Super light and tight.
Great support easy to clean!

Weaknesses:
None really...except the dumb key rings it comes with i had no idea where to use them (my keys?).

Favorite place to ride:
Trois Vallees

Riding Style:
All Mountain/Freeride

Product Year:
2001

Summary:
The liner of my Vikings started to tear a tiny bit. so I sent them back to Burton to have them repaired. I was pleased and irritated at the same time when they gave me new ION's cause the Viking was the best boot I'd ever used.
Now two weeks later riding Powder and Park they just get better and better as they get worn in (My Vikings were really loosing stiffness fast). They are small, light, very comfortable and you feel welded to your board.
Very expensive, if I hadn't gotten em free I'd go for the drivers. But hey! I'm not complaining! Good one Burton your customer service is as allways the best.

Strengths:
Compared to my 99 Vikings these are much shorter, I can rid e narrower boards! Much more toe-side support than Vikings because of the plastic thingy under the laces. Makes you feel welded to your board and before you know it you'll be down the mountain at higher speeds. Heelside support is less than Vikings but if you use the 2000 CFX it's no problem. O yeah they are so stiff you need to work out to tweak your grabs. Removing the plastic whatsit does the job.
O yeah that plastic thing does something nifty too; I like to strap in really tight, that bit of plastic spreads the pressure of the strap so your strap doesn't cut into your foot.

Weaknesses:
Not any really, maybe a little more heelside stiffness for over 50km/hour. Or use the new Mission GT's to ancor yourself.
