Price Paid:  $0.00 at SFO Snowboards

Favorite place to ride:
Kirkwood, CA

Riding Style:
All Mountain/Freeride

Product Year:
2000

Summary:
These were my first hardboot bindings. They are very easy to get into and out of and have a positive "clunk" when they're engaged. The plastic seems very temperature-sensitive. Be sure to adjust them at the slopes because they tend the shrink a bit when they get cold. If you've adjusted them at room temperature, then try to step into them for the first time, you might not be able to get into them. I did this, then hasitly re-adjusted them on the slopes (also very easy to do with a penny to undo the bail clamps). When I stepped into them, they were TOO loose and I popped out my front foot on the first run. Not the binding's fault, but scary nonetheless.

Since then, I've purchased some used, non-step-in Cateks. Very solid, but heavier than the Carriers and WAY harder to get into.

I don't carve hard enough to flex the carriers, so I'll probably switch back to them this season. These are discontinued (I think) so if you can find these used or on closeout, and you're a beginning/intermediate carver, jump on them!

Strengths:
Easy to get into and out of. Easy to adjust.

Weaknesses:
Plastic is very temperature-sensitive, so you have to be sure to adjust them when they're cold. Room-temperature adjustments may lead to difficult boot engagement.

Favorite place to ride:
Kirkwood/Squaw

Riding Style:
All Mountain/ Freeride

Product Year:
1998

Summary:
i LOVE these bindings! It is just SO easy to click into them and the retention is great. You step into them a lot like a traditional ski binding. To step out you just reach behind your heel and push down on the lever. Easy in, easy out; no fuss, no muss. These bindings just work great. If you can find them, i would recommend picking up a set. I have not had a chance to try out the new Physics bindings so i cannot compare.

Strengths:
SUPER DUPER easy to click into these bad boys! The retention is very positive, not very much slop or flex.

Weaknesses:
Just about no weaknesses. If anything they could make the release mechanism a little easier to use.
