Salomon Snowboarding W5 2001

Description
YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT GUYS WITH BIG FEET. They want wide boards that are responsive and quick-turning just like narrower shapes. To design the new W5, we began with the length of the foot (10-...

Favorite place to ride:
LT Montana

Riding Style:
All Mountain/Freeride

Product Year:
2001

Summary:
Sweet ride for agressive carving and powder riding. I just recently put palmer plates on it and I love it even more.

Strengths:
This is the most responsive wide board that I have ever ridden. I abuse this board and it has lasted beyond my expectations. It is also very fast.

Weaknesses:
The board is delaminating after 3 years of continuous abuse and I put a crease in the deck from a hard landing.

Favorite place to ride:
anywhere I'm at that day

Riding Style:
All Mountain/Freeride

Product Year:
2001

Summary:
This board zooms. It's amazing how it accelerates so quickly. I can zip through catwalks and flats when others are walking. Almost too fast on some terrain, I have to check my speed a lot on the crowded runs. The stiffness is great for choppy steeps like bowls at the end of a powder day. Floats through the fresh with minimal input and doesn't bog down cause it's so fast. Great for high speed powder carves.
I hope the thing lasts because I'm really starting to like it!

Strengths:
fast, light, very responsive for a wide board

Weaknesses:
has a delicate feel, like I'd break it if I hit a tree, I guess that makes sense since it's French made, durability may be questionable

Price Paid:  $400.00 at North Shore Ski & Board

Favorite place to ride:
Blackcomb, BC

Riding Style:
All Mountain/Freeride

Product Year:
2001

Summary:
For the amount of money I spent, I think I would have been better off buying something else, like a Burton Floater which feels way more solid and looks better too.

Strengths:
Very fast. If you've ever ridden a Salomon, you'll know what I mean. The W5 is super stable too, and loves the deep powder. Not too stiff or too flexy. It's just right for me(200 Lbs).

Weaknesses:
The board feels weak. Feels like it has been mass-produced which is the last thing I want when I'm trying something new. Top sheet chips very easily and is more noticeable since the thing is black.

Riding Style:
All Mountain/Freeride

Product Year:
2001

Summary:
Sent back bulging base on warranty and they tried to fix it making it worse. They refused to replace the board. Horrible warranty people at Salomon.
Beware the hype.

Strengths:
It was fast and very damp on the hard stuff & nice in the pow but folded easily.

Weaknesses:
BASE bulged out between clear & black p-tex!
It also chipped huge flakes off the topsheet, felt too soft for any big air landings. No nearly as stiff as I thought it should be. =Overpriced plastic crap.

Favorite place to ride:
mountain creek

Riding Style:
All Mountain/Freeride

Product Year:
2001

Summary:
The fastest board available for the big-footed rider

Strengths:
THis board is incredibly fast and stable. Pefect for smooth turns at high speeds. It is smooth as going from edge to edge, yet wide enough to keep my 12.5 boots from dragging. Incredibly stiff with good pop.

Weaknesses:
Haven't takin it on the pipe yet, but I think it may be a little to stiff for it. A bit expensive as well
